"Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer heads a group investors wanting to buy the Seattle SuperSonics and renovate KeyArena to keep the team in the city, the Seattle Times reported Thursday.

Ballmer and Deutsche Telekom chief John Stanton are joining Costco CEO Jim Sinegal and Seattle developer Matt Griffin in the latest effort to keep the Sonics in Seattle."

Report: Microsoft CEO trying to buy Sonics

I which the would rather neither city have a team. I wish the would just do away with the franchise and give us Durant.

Can they buy the Sonics if they aren't for sale?

A day late and a dollar short, Ballmer and company. You had your shot when the Starbucks guy was selling.

Bennett bought the Sonics specifically to bring them to OKC, not to make a quick flip.

Nope...but the Grizzlies are for sale.

The big issues are the facility in Seattle (which is supposedly not good enough) and the brand-new facility (which is empty because they suck) that ties the Grizzlies to Memphis for a long time.

I'd like to see OKC remain sport-less and SA to remain NFL-less after what they tried to pull.

The NBA needs Seattle more than the other way around. It's a much more lucrative market than any of the above mentioned.

I think he's gonna try to make the team.

Yeah, it's probably not as big of a story as I made it out to be for that reason. You can't buy something that isn't for sale. I'm sure folks in both OKC and Seattle will be watching it closely, though.

It's probably too late, but I hope Ballmer is successful. There has never been any economic benefit from subsidizing pro sports teams, but the sales tax extension measure passed anyway, 62-38%.

That would not at first glance seem to be great news for the hornets

If the Hornets keep playing the way they are, they will crush the attendence bench marks and sign a long term deal......something the Saints have yet to do.

**update**

Breaking News......Watch ABC 26 tonight......Shinn and state to agree to new deal with in the next 10 weeks throwing out all opt out clauses.

Well, Shinn was on ABC-26 news this evening and he said in 10 weeks they will have a NEW lease with the State of LA that is long-term...it's the lock lease we have all been waiting for...he's already met with Ron Forman. It is on http://abc26.trb.com/ . Hit "more," "sports," videos and watch "Hornets on ABC."
