The above vid, while an odd standard here on SR, brought to mind (my mind, anyway) a notion for a thread here.

Adriano Celantano wrote the song as a demonstration of what English sounds like to people who don't speak it.

I was toiling away today at work, and got to thinking about the different dialects within our own country. Like what is said with a southern drawl, compared to what is heard by my (land sakes!) yankee ears.

For instance, when someone from the deep South says the word "tired", as in "I'm tired", I sometimes hear "tard", which could be taken as quite a derogatory word.

I'm sure there are other things that others hear but they KNOW that's not what the other person said...

Maybe some of you could add your own thoughts?

Maybe I'm just overtired, and can't properly convey what I'm thinking. That possiblity exists too.

American Tongues is one of my favorite documentaries of all time. Made by some Louisianians, too - covering the dynamics of dialect, with examples; all over the country. Even Gretna
