Drew Brees was named Sports Illustrated’s Sportsman of the Year for 2010 on Tuesday and with good reason.

The magazine rightly noted Brees’ accomplishments in quarterbacking the Saints to their first Super Bowl title in February, as well as his leadership in New Orleans’ ongoing rebuilding from Hurricane Katrina.

SI’s announcement coincides with Brees playing his best football of the current season, and Brees is going to have to maintain or raise his current level of play if the Saints are going to make a run at all reminiscent of their run last season.
