Now that williams, trufant, NNamdi are tagged new offseason projection 2.0 (1 Viewer)

It does so every year... teams are much better at managing their caps, and they don't let good players go.

Consider: if Colston was going to hit the FA market, do you think the Saints would let him?

Exactly every team but the Falcons (under McKay), Ravens, and Redskins have done a decent job managing the cap. So they have money to keep their best players. The franchise tag helps them do it. Without the tag teams willing to mortgage their future would end up with all the talent and smaller market teams that prefer to manage their cap would get the scraps. The reason baseball sucks is because unless you're fan of the Yankees or Red Sox you have little to no shot at the Series.

Everyone here would be crying if the owners did away with the cap and negotiations between Colston and Loomis broke down. Yes, right now the franchise tag stinks but it's going to come in handy in the near future.......

I think we need to sign one big name this year...

1. Do we think about Ken Hamlin again, or stick with two question marks at FS? We brought him in, didn't sign him, and guess who started the Pro-Bowl this year at FS?

2. Do we finally sign a shutdown corner? Only one left on the market... Asante Samuel. Please don't bring in another Jason Craft. We have so many nickel backs that we are rich.

3. Do we finally sign a pro-bowl LB with Lance Briggs? Fujita is solid, but the rest are backups who just aren't playmakers.

We need one of these to happen if we are going to improve our defense before the draft. Unless we have another draft like 2006 and get four new starters, which is unlikely. We also signed TWO important players in 2006, Brees and Fujita. So, I really hope we get one of these big names and then another solid name in Free Agency this year, such as...

CD Drayton Florence
CD Randall Gay
CB
Lito Sheppard (Trade 3rd Round Pick or Less)

OLB Kawika Mitchell
MLB Zach Thomas (Could be Huge)
MLB Dan Morgan (If we don't get Z. Thomas, a ONE YEAR CONTRACT can't hurt)

TE Alge Crumpler (Love Him, but lots of cash for another offensive player)
WR Bernard Berrian
WR Patrick Crayton (We need Any WR, because Meachem is a Question mark)
WR Andre' Davis
WR Bryant Johnson

I agree we build through the draft, but we need to fill in a hole here and there to keep things running smoothly.

Re-sign: Faine - Need to keep the OL intact.
Goodwin - Versatile. Played well when Faine was injured.
Miller - Solid. Knows the system.
Wynn - Versatile. Weak DE draft.
Nesbit - Versatile.

FA's: DT Starks - Young, talented.
WR Johnson - Will have great year and solidify #2 spot.
CB Florence - Solid, young. Desperate need.
QB Fitzgerald - Smart. Will cost a 7th.

Draft: 1. CB Jenkins - Best man to man guy with size and speed.
2. MLB Lofton/MLB Mayo/DT Sims/TE Davis - Instant starter at need position.
3. MLB Leman/WR Bowman(steal)/DT Moore/CB Lee
4. OLB Butler/DT Okam/CB Terrell/S Adams/C Lichtensteiger
5. OLB Gatewood/DE Gillberry/DT Rubin/WR Jackson/TE Davis
