It's a rough situation for Obama. Bill is a hero to the Democrats. Taking him on directly is a dangerous game. If I were Obama I would have my supporters take him on.Let someone else burn political capital challenging Bill.
Obama will be 58 after two Hillary terms, when he will go up against Chelsea, who will be ready to lead for change. She will face Jeb's son George Bush, who his grandfather once called "the little brown one". The twin dynasties continue.

The latest rumor is that Hillary is writing off SC. That implies the 2008 race will be fought everywhere else, which perhaps isn't surprising. Clinton can get the states Kerry won in 2004, add NM or Ohio, and we get the co-Presidency Bill evoked in 1991.
"Buy one, get one free"
If you get Hillary or Barack v. McCain/Romney/Giulliani then the 2008 map will be very close to the 1988 map.
we could even have ron paul running as a Libertarian.
