My gf just got a netbook that has XP SP3. I am trying to install Office 2000, but it stops about half way asking for the XP SP3 disk. Obviously, I don't have it and I am wondering if there are any ways around it.

I installed Office 200 on my pc that has XP SP2 without a problem.

I went on Windows Update and found a page or two about installing Office 2000 with SP3, but Office needs to be installed first, which is the issue all along.

Anyone have any suggestions?

You can download SP3 from microsoft's website (from the download center, not windows update). Then there is a switch that will force the files to extract without installing. Extract them to a directory, then when the install asks for the disk, point to the folder with the extracted files.

The extract switch is -x

So create a directory (c:\sp3), go to Start -> Run and browse to your downloaded SP3 file and add -x:c:\sp3

Path to file\windowsxp-kb936929-sp3-x86-enu.exe -x:c:\sp3

Note that, often, the files the installation will be looking for are in the i386 directory of the extracted folder.
