Yeah because getting your arse kicked in a key demographic would be the last reason to make your program better plus the game tonight isn’t a great matchup

It doesn't have to be a great matchup. It's the debut of MNF. It's going to absolutely demolish any rating AEW has ever gotten or will ever get and, again, it's directly opposing Raw. I'm a big AEW fan and I think I'm one of the first ones here to jump off the WWE train, so I'm by no means carrying the water of the latter; but teasing a cash-in by Big E is a counter to having to go up against the consistent juggernaut that is MNF.

Key word “teasing”, I wouldn’t doubt Vince has already torn the script up multiple times to where now Lashley retains and Big E does nothing

At this rate, Joe might as well hang them up. He can't catch a break.

MNF draws a much larger audience (with similar 18-49 male target priorities) than any AEW show and is direct competition for Raw on Monday nights. It's definitely much more a result of the NFL premiering this season's MNF.
AEW Dynamite outdrew RAW in the key 18-49 demographic for the first time. If you don't think hot-shotting title defenses is in some way related to that, well...

Dynamite drew a rating of 0.52 in the 18-49 demographic. Do you know what rating last season's MNF debut did in that demographic? 3.62. That's 7 times more than Dynamite and they are in direct opposition to Raw. But yeah, go ahead and keep thinking that the WWE is more worried about AEW than MNF on this very night.

RAW won't come close to the NFL's number, either. Meltzer is reporting that the WWE is changing things b/c of the AEW number.

WWE’s competition is AEW not MNF
Their competition is anyone or anything who attempts to take away their target demographic away from them. That includes the NFL. Just think back to all the time they did big swerves, reveals, etc. at approximately the same time as kickoffs or halftime. Those things weren't done just by coincidence.

Of course, Raw won't come close to MNF's numbers. No one expects them to. The point is that MNF is direct fierce competition for the 18-49 demographic.
The title match between Orton and Lashley was originally planned for Extreme Rules but it's being reported that the WWE moved it up to tonight on Raw because they wanted to juice the ratings for Raw as much as possible against the debut of MNF.

Did the WWE rebrand NXT because it lost the Wednesday night war to Dynamite? I could buy that. Did they put the title on Becky Lynch in response to Punk's hot appearances in AEW? Absolutely. But they could have just waited two weeks to do the Orton vs. Lashley match as originally planned. They moved it up to be strong competition against MNF.

Their target demo is kids now not teens and adults
