Ohio bill would allow pregnant people to sue over unintended pregnancies (2 Viewers)

Oh God, I love your posts mate. You are the Betrand Russell of Saints report! Bless you.
Lol you should see me in real life. 2 weeks ago I met a group of federal agents at a bar. I was pitching my drug & gun smuggling crime syndicate that I want to lead and trying to recruit them to be my inside men to facilitate getting my contraband across the border.

I got a marriage proposal from one of them because I was a white girl who spoke better Spanish than them. His friend asked if I wanted to release doves at the wedding. I said absolutely not. Have you not been paying attention? I want cocaine released at my wedding!

Anyway, pretty sure I am on a federal watchlist now.

I've never heard of it. Is the attempted assassination part true?!

---

I just looked it up. I never knew that. Sounds like a great premise for a novel. I'll add it to my list.
It's a remarkable dramatised telling of an incredible true life story. The book is actually about the personal stories of a group of people connected with Marley, the gangsters, and the intelligence agents. It's a shocking story of casual violence, misguided morals, brutal misogny and homophobia, and living as a good person in a country that was descending rapidly into anarchy and chaos.

For those who don't know the backdrop....

Marley had grown up in the slums of Kingston and knew Jamaica's gangsters on a personal level and was close friends with both PNP and JLP hard men. (The godfathers were gangsters at one level, and civil and community leaders at another level so this should not reflect badly on Marley). He created an oasis of tolerance at 57 Hope Road where he lived and encouraged people to stop fighting each other. JLP and PNP leaders met there and smoked weed and chatted without violence.

He was successful in persuading the two top Rankin Dons Claudie Massop (JLP) and Bucky Marshall (PNP) to stop what was becoming a civil war and make peace. A peace rally was to be held and Prime Minister Michael Manley lent his support to it.

The CIA felt threatened by the possibility of Manley who was a Democratic Socialist, becoming closely aligned with Marley as they feared 'another Cuba' (again) and they were using the violence as an excuse to fund and train JLP gangsters.

The upshot was Marley's PNP bodyguards were paid off and a JLP hit squad descended on Hope Road and fired a bunch of automatic wreapons at Marley, his wife, band members and friends.

Marley was hit twice, his manager Don Taylor was shot 6 times, and Marley's wife was shot in the head. All remarkably survived,

The tragedy of the misguided attempts to protect democracy in Jamaica is that it led to the rise of the Shower posse one of the most brutal cartels in the world. JLP gunmen found fighting for a slice of the drug trade more profitable than fighting to destroy socialism...and kitted out with RPGs, military spec automatic weapons, and the bomb making skills of Miami terrorist Luis Posada (who killed all the passengers on a Cubana civil aviation flight), they quickly morphed into major players in the drug world.

As brutal as the subject matter is, it's a moving and beautiful book. As James reveals...even the cold blooded killers are highly damaged teenagers who were groomed to kill from childhood and were forced to kill by psychopathic bosses.

Marley's vision for peace is as elusive as ever.

That's superb.

Back in the 90s I used to work for the UK civil service and used to think it was highly amusing to sign in to government buildings in the name of a freedom fighter, communist leader or FBI's Most Wanted.....

I entered sites as everyone from DB Cooper to Camilo Cienfuegos and thought it was hilarious....until 2001 when the whole security state thing started.

After the police murdered some poor Brazilian guy who supposed looked like a terrorist (he didn't) because he apparently resisted arrest when they fired at him (He didn't - he just died) I started to think it might not have been such a funny idea!

I was concerned that some bored pen pusher might start matching names in log in books to video camera footage and that I might suddenly see the UK Police's 'shoot now hide the CCTV evidence later' SO12 unit kick down my door and shoot me in the face because I was sightly unshaven and had a Clash Sandinista Album t-shirt on.

You realise in late 70s Argentina that just being in the wrong person's address book was enought to get a decent harmless citizen thrown into the ESMA torture chambers and then disposed of by being tossed out of the back of a military plane.

Before I knew Argentina's histiry I was chatting to a guy I knew in Buenos Aires and he told me...'I remain an idealist....Some days I might even describe myself as an armchair communist...'

I said: 'Why just an armchari one?'

'Because,' he replied. 'In Argentina, there are only two types of communist....armchair ones.....and dead ones.'

Can you site anything scientific that shows where higher brain function is a requirement for something to be considered human life? Because it isn't

Furthermore, the legal systems in most states already recognize a fetus as a human life

Legally and scientifically, a fetus is a human life well before higher brain function happens. Your opinion that it doesn't is just that....your opinion. You are certainly entitled to your opinion, but your opinion is not supported legally or scientifically

Is there a distinction to be made between human life and a human life (person)?

If a person is in an accident and as result declared brain dead, is it murder to unplug them from life support?

Without brain function, does the individual exist?

BTW, the Lozier institute has the science right, but they are still anti-abortion.

Well the science is the point....I am not anti-abortion. I do think it should be available with limitations

As for your analogy, it really depends on one's views. If you really want to be technical, by the strict definition, yes ending that person's life would be murder (unless they had left instructions for that to be done).
I am saying that despite the fact that I would WANT someone to pull the plug after some time has passed (give me a chance to come out of it first). Due to being paralyzed before and sometimes having sleep paralysis I have a phobia about it.

I don't think the point of the article is the science, rather, it is using the science to push a philosophy.

Irrelevant to the point I am making tho. It's only the science I was interested in, not what they did with it given that I don't agree with their opinion

Typically it’s ‘partisan bickering’ that becomes the issue
As long as ideas are being discussed and it doesn’t devolve into libs/maga mudslinging, the mods usually let it ride (not the same as on the SSF, obviously)
That dude needs to be aborted
He seems very disturbed. What is his problem with New Orleans? Last year he tried to halt renovations to the Superdome

How many sperm would rather not wind up in a sock?
The argument only works when you chose a magical ‘soul’ moment to give cells an identity
A magical soul moment??? Serious? Go with a heart beat, or the ability to feel pain.

So for those who want to outline benchmarks, what happens if we are past those benchmarks but carrying to term presents a potentially fatal complication to the pregnant woman?
Individual decision. My wife would die before she let her child die. Leave it up to the parents.

@Semper -

I don’t mean this disrespectfully.

But it is so easy to say you would give your life for your unborn child when your actual life isn’t on the line. I mean real easy,

After the kid is here, I get it. I have two and I would make that choice for them without thinking twice

But go back in time 14 years ago and my wife had already had one ectopic that almost killed her. Embryo attached to the Fallopian tube and ruptured. But it grew for 8 weeks first before the tube literally exploded.

I didn’t know my children yet. My oldest was still two years away.

If we would have been faced with her or life or that of an entity which is not viable, and won’t be without my wife dying?

I have no idea what I would think tbh.

I already had to sit for hours while they removed her exploded tube and an ovary hoping she wouldn’t bleed out. I know I wasn’t thinking about the 8 week old embryo that almost made me a widower.

It's complicated, because what if you already have children that need you. Sacrificing yourself for the one child seem like an easy decision but you will leave all those children without a mother.

These "decisions" need to be up to the woman and her doctor.

Everyone else needs to but out, including the lawman, law makers, the pastors and the church.

Its for the woman and her doctor only to decide.
