MSNBC just broke with "Breaking News":

"Britney on her way to court for custody hearing!"

This has gone too far. That is not breaking news. At least with the Paris/jail story (which also believe should have been only newsworthy to the entertainment networks/news shows - but fine, if you insist) you had a very public person going to jail, which I guess is somewhat dramatic.

Britney's custody hearing is NOT news. There are probably about 500 things happening around the nation and the world at the very same moment that are far more newsworthy. If the mainstream news networks insist on covering this stuff because they believe there is a market for it- fine. But at least have some baseline of newsworthiness. This is ridiculous. Its a freakin' custody hearing.

It's embarassing.

Thanks for the breaking news. :9:

Chuck, could you post a link of some streaming video? :covri:

Sure!

If she's driving herself, it really is breaking news.

All of the Los Angelenos need fair warning to clear the roads and streets so they can avoid having her swerve into them.

This proves just how bored the media thinks the American public is.

I agree- the operative verb is "thinks".

This crap is a media creation. Yes, there is a market segment out there that cares about that kind of stuff. But it is very small. The rest of us just watch it because they feed it to us.

And for the networks, its EASY. They don't have to have any thoughtful insight. They don't have to think. Just put a camera on these celebrity trainwrecks - that's what America wants right?

NO. Not most of us. We tolerate it but not that many of us really want it. Just part of the dumbing down of America.

Have some respect for your field for pete's sake. Edward R. Murrow's ghost needs to come kick some producer ***.
