I made a post last week about how excited I was about our defense. They started unusually strong in week one, leaving me very optimistic because we usually get even better as the season rolls along. Then, of course, they lay a big fat egg. I know a lot of the talk is on Brees, but the reality is we knew this year, we were going to be heavily reliant on a stout defense, and playing sound on offense.

I think that’s what upset me the most in Monday’s game, getting thrashed repeatedly. Poor tackling, failure to come up with an answer to one guy dominating us, and the panic grabs that drew flags. That can’t happen. Allen has to make whatever adjustment he has to make to prevent one guy from making fools of us. I do think the offense will get it together. I also think the D will bounce back, but that performance left a bad taste. That’s why expectations can leave you so disappointed. It’s one game, but it was an ugly one.

Hopefully it was the gut punch we needed to not get complacent. I am going into this week not expecting anything, but hoping all this negativity dissipates with a sound win. Going to be another tough test for the D, and we’ll see how they respond.

The collective overreaction to this poor defensive outing is baffling, and makes me wonder if a solid portion of our fan base has essentially no long-term memory.

Every season, there is a brutal defensive outing. Obviously some seasons contained many of those. But no matter how great the season was..... Whether it was the quick front run in 2006 (remember what Baltimore and Cincinnati did to us?)...... The Super Bowl season of 2009 (two pretty bad teams, Miami and Washington, lit us up.... But most people overlook it because those games ended up being wins)..... Or the 2011 season of offensive records (remember the Green Bay and STL games?).....2013 (STL and Seattle)....2017 (first two games)...2018 (Fitzmagic)..2019 (Houston, which we happened to win, and the Niners game).

Speaking of that Niners game..... Remember how amazing their defense was, and had 40 plus points dropped on them by Drew Brees less than a year ago? I'm a little confused, because I've seen a lot of people on this forum say how he has been holding our offense back for a while? When we win a game, it's all good..,... When we lose, it's "guys, I love Drew, but it's now time" 😂😂

Our defense smells like one of my farts. Speaking of farts I hope a Saints player breaks wind on Aaron Roger's face mask
