Saints Overlooked in the disappointing loss... (1 Viewer)

Apple should be offered no more a 2-3 mil per year deal for 2 years ad if he thinks he can get better elsewhere then he is more than welcome to walk! There was a reason the Giants were willing to trade him last year and Loomis/Payton decided not to use the 5th year option on him.

1. Drew Brees (yeah, that washed-up, old, overrated QB) was 29/40 (72.5 %), and accounted for six, repeat, SIX touchdowns (5 passing and he rushed for the 6th one). He had zero int's.

2. Today's fan attendance (by the 12th man) was OVER capacity of 73,000 (actual count: 73,038).

3. Saints had 465 yds of TOTAL offense vs. the NFL's #1 rated defense (49'ers).

4. Saints' tight ends had 3 td's today (Cook-2; Josh Hill-1) . Jared Cook has been ballin' lately!

5. Wil Lutz was money today (4/4 XP; 2/2 FG, with longest 55 yds).

6. Deonte Harris had 205 all purpose yds. today, and averaged 31 yds. per kickoff return.

7. Old Man Craig Robertson played heads-up ball and came up with an INT.

8. Vonn Bell: 8 tackles; 4 assists, 1 sack.

The offense was clicking, and for them to do that vs. a defense like the 49'ers should go a long way in building the team's confidence.

Today's performance by the defense was somewhat sloppy, and tackling was undisciplined at times. But overall, the defensive effort vs. the 49'ers has to be an outlier. Look for the team to clamp down from now throughout the playoffs.

That’s the bummer. We, myself included, were stressing so much over how we might struggle moving the ball on such a good defense. We did so with ease, but the D layed an egg. I just can’t understand why both sides can’t be dominant on the same day for a change.

Great post, gotta bump this thread and try to keep it toward the top. Have to keep things in perspective Green Bay just lost to these 49ers 8-37! and we lost and extremely close game 46-48, not exactly the "sky is falling" bad game its being made out to be. Lots of football still left to be played before the playoffs even start. Any given Sunday!

Not an outlier.

Falcons, Panthers and now 49ers, all at home where we should have a major advantage on defense.

Not only is this not an outlier, it's a definite trend in the wrong direction.

And apparently they had it in their game plan to attack Apple too.

Me and my buddy noticed this from the onset of the game...SF definitely watched our last game and knew throwing his way was straight MONEY!

The wheels have come off the defense. It seems worse every week somehow.

How were we a better team with TB at QB? Boggles the mind really.

Also overlooked was Thomas breaking the franchise yardage record that he set just last year. He has three games to add to it.

With TB @QB the Saints D was forced to play hard on every snap....with Brees @QB the Saints D does not play that hard....they didn't show up against the clowns, and made the 9rs O look world beaters. This 9rs O is slightly above middle of the road offense, but the Saints D made them look unstoppable......

If they keep playing like this, the Titans surely will beat them too

Agree 100. I cannot believe that an entire team can lose focus like this. It shows you how great Brees has been all these years. He covers a multitude of sins and the rest of the team knows it.

This has changed my opinion on what having an elite QB means. I have seen that we can win with an above average QB if/when the entire organization has laser focus.

That said, it was nice to see our offense dish it out for once. And against the best D in the league. Not every play worked but for the most part SP/Brees had the niners defense on the ropes. All Brees needs is reliable receiving options and he can still put up monstrous numbers. Any talk of his decline is just silly at this point.

Because Sean Payton was FORCED to use the run game a lot because of TB rustiness. Do you remember how dominant we were during that stretch? We looked like the Ravens on D with a bad attitude with the the grace of 2009 offense. We had the same flow yesterday for while with Murray running the ball. It has nothing to do with Brees play falling off he' perfectly fine.

Klein and Kiko playing would have changed the game on the defensive side of the ball.
Robertson was 2 steps away from turning the WR pass into a big loss. Kiko makes than play.
SP will look at the film and feel like an idiot for not running Murray more. As a coach you have to help out your defense more and control the ball. With the success Murray had, he should have had twice as many carries.
We need to root for Seattle over San Fran and Green Bay to also drop 1.

not so sure about that, seems SP gets away from Murray every game

Man, I really needed to see this! Everything has been so doom and gloom lately that it’s hard to come here. But the truth is THIS!

We ran into a team that is just as good as we are. This game could’ve gone either way for either team. We will hopefully see them again and correct our mistakes.

In a rematch, I will take our coach over any other coach. In the NFC that is.
