So did anyone here Mike Golic's suggestion for a new overtime rule?

First to 6 points wins.

Sounds like a great idea. IF you get the first possession you have to drive for a touchdown, otherwise a field goal gets you half way to the needed points. I think the drive 30 yards and kick a field goal is too cheap as it is now. In this new scenario, if you can't get the TD, at least the other team gets a chance to get 6 points, and if not, a second field goal clinches the win.

The games would go longer obviously, but this just seems a lot more fair. The way it is now I think everyone admits to being pretty lame, and gives the first possession team in overtime way to much advantage, but make them play for 6 points, and it evens it out some, but still gives the coin flip more meaning then it does in the college rules. Plus, you won't get these screwed up scores like in college with 8 overtimes. At most, there will be 9 points added to the final score total aggregate.

The best idea is simply to add another 10 minute quarter and play.

But if that isn't an option, taking FG's out completely in OT is another workable idea. Or at least make it so a FG can't win it for you on your first possession.

This is actually a great Idea.

I fully support that idea. It would also make OT very exciting as the likelihood of teams going for it on 4th down when they are in the red zone would increase as well since they want to put the game away, especially if they have a suspect defense.

In the regular season, just end the game in a tie...
If it is the playoffs, play an entire OT quarter (10 min).

I hate sudden death overtime. I could live with the 6 point rule, because its better than what we have now, but i think both teams should get at least one possession. Sadley i think the reason the league won't change overtime is from pressure from the tv networks.

Overtime the way it is is incredibly unfair.... Might as well just giving the win to the team that wins the coin toss.
I like this idea (first 6pts).

Get a good defense and don't let the other team's offense get into field goal range. Then, have a good enough offense to score and not give the ball back!!!

That's my way to fix it!

What I like about overtime the way it is, it is all about who is the better TEAM!

So if the team you are playing has already scored 3, and you are punting from within your 10 should you take a safety? Makes complete sense to me in this scenario...

Some interesting strategy.

And then why not go for onside kick to start the overtime? Even if you don't get it, you are OK as long as you hold them out of the end zone.

link??

i am sure the networks are dying to show MASH reruns and infomercials on Sunday afternoon rather than the most popular sport in America

i say we just let the fattest guy for each team race the 40 yard dash to see who wins.
