So did anyone here Mike Golic's suggestion for a new overtime rule?
First to 6 points wins.
Sounds like a great idea. IF you get the first possession you have to drive for a touchdown, otherwise a field goal gets you half way to the needed points. I think the drive 30 yards and kick a field goal is too cheap as it is now. In this new scenario, if you can't get the TD, at least the other team gets a chance to get 6 points, and if not, a second field goal clinches the win.
The games would go longer obviously, but this just seems a lot more fair. The way it is now I think everyone admits to being pretty lame, and gives the first possession team in overtime way to much advantage, but make them play for 6 points, and it evens it out some, but still gives the coin flip more meaning then it does in the college rules. Plus, you won't get these screwed up scores like in college with 8 overtimes. At most, there will be 9 points added to the final score total aggregate.
