I like your insight.....good stuff. Darlene is bat crap crazy while also being smart...however that works. I think her being a loose canon gets her killed at some point.I thought this season was really good. If I may add some of my own takes I don't think we've touched yet.
1. Maya Miller. There hasn't been a lot said about her in this thread so far. I see her as a mirror image of Marty Byrde (it's Byrde with an "e") and that much will become even more clear next season. She's just as smart as he is. She knows all the tricks he's using and he know she knows. She also knows that he's unlikely to make the mistakes that would allow her to pursue charges. And he know she knows this. They are incredibly evenly matched. They both want to win for reasons that began as emotional responses to dealing with their dads. They have very similar temperaments. They think the same. As the saying goes, game recognizes game. Marty gave her nod when he acknowledged that he knew she was responsible for the red flag that sent everyone else into panic mode. It could have only been her. She's the only person that knew that only he would know what to do, proving his value. They know that they're better at what they do than anyone else around and that can make for a lonely life. We've seen how Marty had drifted away from his wife in season 1 onward. Now, he has someone that gets him, someone on the same level. I don't think it's a mistake that Maya is pregnant, pushed hard to be in the field out of DC, and doesn't wear a wedding ring. She's Marty...but on the other side.
2. Darlene Snell. I hate to say it, but the woman has grown on me, LOL. I feel like she had some of the best quotes of the season. "maybe she's having hallucinations...all those hormones and breast milk are playing tricks on her", "I can't have some women out there hocked up on breast milk slandering me". You best believe the KC mob is going to take her up on her offer if for no other reason because they share a common enemy (the Byrdes).
3. Wyatt Langmore. Dear God, man...seriously. But whatever, he's very smart and finally coming out of that fog of self-hate. The kid has the potential to be a force. With the love and encouragement of Ruth and Darlene, if he applies himself he could bring back "respectability" to the Langmore name.
Yep. If Wendy Byrde got one thing right this season (and she did only get this one thing right) it was easily the perfect time to get it right. And it ends up being the most critically important idea of the season. Which is why I'm surprised that it didn't occur to Marty...or Maya. Everyone knows this was a retaliation hit. Why didn't someone think of this sooner?
Calling Ben ignorant and naive because of his mental illness is like calling someone who's legally blind ignorant and naive for not comprehending the large print on a sign warning that the walk bridge is out.
I see Ruth as being a main player at some point too....her street smarts gets her by but she knows Marty is where the brains and future is. She'll make amends with Marty at some point and probably betray Darlene and that's what gets Darlene killed.
At least I hope it goes something like that....the more Ruth the better. I have a huge crush on her haha
