CHARLOTTE - Even as early as January, I'll get this question from fans: Who do you think the Carolina Panthers will take in the NFL draft?

Too early to know, I'll tell them.

Quite frankly, it's premature to evaluate a team's draft needs until you see which players they release and what moves they make in free agency.

The Panthers are a much different team now than they were when they walked off the field in Tampa, Fla., on Dec. 30. They've filled needs at wide receiver and linebacker, and those two positions are no longer a necessity.
