We are 29th against the run giving up 140 ypg. I know we don't have the most confidence in the world (Seattle just got a BS roughing call) in our CBs, but our defense against the run needs to improve if we are going to get into the playoffs... and be successful in the playoffs.

As sorry as some say our secondary is... we're 6th against the pass giving up only 183 ypg.

STOP THE RUN... our pass defense stats will improve after this game... but unless we stop the run Frank Gore will kill us.

STOP THE :cussing: RUN !!!

166 yards to Vick

150 to Willie Parker on 2 runs.

Stats are skewed on our run defense, but I agree it's a problem. LBs need to be upgraded (except possibly Fujita)

Cough Cough Cough, Danny Clark, Cough. The announcers even made a comment on how he made 2 huge tackles in the red zone to prevent the touchdown. DC is a STUD in the run game and I cheer for him every time he gets a chance to crack some skulls. I hope yall feel the same.

clark is a good run stuffer, but a complete liability on passing downs...and other teams know this

Clark made a couple of great stops on the goalline, but did you notice how he covered Crumpler on that playaction. He had that dirty bird smothered. Looks like he is improving in that department. Danny Clark needs to play more in this game against SF. More than just on the goalline. Maybe split it 50-50 with MS.

I posted this in another thread...

Every runningback not named Mike Vick ran for 115 yards on 33 carries (3.48 YPC).

Cleveland week 1: 3.86
Green Bay week 2: 3.15 YPC
Atlanta week 3: 5.08 YPC
Carolina week 4: 5.76 YPC
Tampa week 5: 5.67 YPC
Philly week 6: 5.21 YPC
Bye week 7:
Baltimore week 8: 3.60 YPC
Tampa week 9: 3.78 YPC
Pittsburgh week 10: 8.35 YPC
Cincinnati week 11: 3.84 YPC

Remember, as LSSpam said, 148 yards of Parkers 213 came on 2 plays. So in 24 other attempts they gained only 69 yards (2.88 YPC).

I'm not too worried about our run D because so many of those yards came from Vick and Parker. I'm more worried about our pass D giving up a deep TD when it really matters.

D line...............it all starts and stops up front. We are good when Thomas is on point and not good when thomas is tired or rotated out of the game. And unless Danny Clark leanrs to play DT he wont make a difference.

I like how our Run D has looked, minus Vick and 2 Willie P. runs (one of which came against our entire back-up d-line). Thomas has been a monster, re-sign this guy, and Grant!

The only thing I worry about our D is that they give up to many big plays!

I think it's fair to exclude Vick in considering one's run defense. To say opposing running backs average 3.48/carry is fine. I don't think we can exclude Parker. Sure it was 2 plays, but other teams have RBs with power and acceleration beyond the line -- if the Saints get to Festivus, they might play Shaun Alexander or Julius Jones.

Vick, on the other hand is a weird hybrid creature. IMHO, his run yards come at the expense of (a) making himself vulnerable to injury and (b) messing up their passing game. It's odd, but players like McNabb and Steve Young (and the young Brunell) seem to help/helped their passing game with the threat of running. I think Vick's offense does not really feature that kind of run/pass threat -- it's too much commitment to Vick running.

He's not really a RB or a QB, and the Saints wouldn't face anyone like him in Festivus, because there is no one else like him.
