The Saints hit the halfway point of the season with momentum after a dominant victory against the Bucs

TAMPA, FLA. -- About an hour after the Saints cruised past the halfway mark of this remarkable season, quarterback Drew Brees mentioned the word "playoffs."
It was a casual reference, which came in the context of trying to gain some momentum after the Saints' impressive 31-14 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday.
But it spoke volumes about what the team had just accomplished. As in their previous victories this season, the Saints offered proof they are for real. A week earlier, the Saints (6-2) had suffered their worst loss of the season to the Baltimore Ravens, and there were just enough question marks lingering to make folks cautious in their optimism.
