Patriots Release OG Josh Kline (1 Viewer)

Is he worthy of a look?
Pretty obvious that he is not able to pass a medical, hence the non-trade. That should answer your question pretty definitively

Assuming we don't want another 15 page thread full of woulda shoulda coulda about someone we are not going to add to the team.

I swear this is the most concern I have ever seen for one particular position leading into the season. I remember the dreaded can he play safety threads and this seems even worse. No offense to you op, I'm just noticing that we want to look at EVERY LINEMAN CUT. It just seems a little crazy.
Our guard spot is that bad, and I'm concerned as well. We cannot run the ball because of it, and QB was under too much pressure from bad play last year. With the schedule we play this year, it will be worse. Peat, Lelito and Kelemete is not the combo you want as your starting guards.

As bad as it looked most of preseason, Lelito actually played really well at RG in the 4th game. Peat looked more comfortable at LG as well.

I'm all for an upgrade, but I'm not as concerned as I was.

I agree. Zack said recently the oline play is about every olineman having to take it upon himself to play better. I think he was trying to motivate both himself and his fellow linemen, which is a good thing.

But I still feel a big part of an effective o line is its continuity. And we really havent had much of that throughout the preseason. IMO, thats been due in large part to injuries, which like last year, forced players to play outta position.

That said, my biggest concern going into Sundays game is the health of Armstead. IF he is a full go, then this will be the healthiest the oline has been this year. And regardless as to whos plying where at OG, hopefully everybody can settle down and into their positions....

And we can finally get some continuity goin on the o line!

"The Eagles believed they were going to acquire Kline from the Patriots and then trade him elsewhere, but that second transaction never materialized, which led to the Eagles declining Kline's involvement in the trade."

I don't think he is injured.

Larry Holder just tweeted this:

FA Josh Kline was 37th ranked guard in 2015 via @PFF. By comparison, Tim Lelito was 27 & Jahri Evans No. 28. #Saints

Kline isn't an upgrade over what we have now.

Not sure those numbers are accurate (as I have seen many different rankings quoted) but even if they are, it shows the PFF rankings mean little. That would mean that both Evans and Lelito could be the top guard on many teams in the NFL as there would be 64 starters. In reality, our guard play was a big weakness.

As usual, I'm with you Bonchie. Initially I was all for cutting bait with Lelito. After watching the Ravens game I think RG is where he belongs and Peat at LG. There was too much experimental change going on, especially with Peat. They will pull it together.[emoji85]

Where it says Evans and Lelito were good? It only says there were 30+ guards worse than them. And that's not hard to believe if you watch any NFL game besides the saints' games since o line play around the league is terrible.

It's like it's a bandwagon to jump on . I have been saying we were going to need an O line upgrade when Grubbs didn't live up to expectations. Bushrod an de la Puente leaving did not help . We started to address it with Armstead and then with Unger and Peat . We are really only a guard or two away from having a very good O line . 2 OG's next yr and let Peat play RT and NO WHERE ELSE and we could be very good

With how everyone is salivating at every single cast off guard on the market, I wonder if they think even this would be an improvement...

I bet we could get em for cheap...
