Patriots receive:

  • WR Chris Olave
  • Pick No. 9
  • Pick No. 129
Saints receive:

  • Pick No. 4
  • Pick No. 144

I am not a fan of the trade composition for Chris Olave. I would like to see additional pick(s) so we could address other needs. What do you think?

We don't need to trade up. If we move Olave, it needs to be for additional draft capital. We are sitting at a nice position at 9 where players with 1st round grades will fall to us.

I'd look at playoff teams in the backend of the 1st who can use a WR2 to support their WR1/Big X.

Houston is a perfect option, Diggs is old and Dell is out for awhile. They could move their 1st for Olave who would pair nicely with Nico Collins who is their Big X #1 WR.

The team definitely doesn’t need to move up from #9. Any trades they make should be for more picks in this draft. They have holes to fill. Losing Olave would just create another. This is just a pipe dream by this Pats writer with a silly trade proposal.

Houston would make sense. Keep #9, get #25, #89, and maybe a 7th. Losing Olave would hurt but getting fair compensation of multiple picks could help build the team. I’d rather keep Olave but for the right offer……

Tilted in Pats favor.

Maybe something like this:
Pats: Olave, 9, 93
Saints: 4, 38,145

Pats drop 5 spots in the 1st, move their 2nd rounder back to the 3rd and send an additional 4th. They really only give up a single pick and just move back with the rest of their picks.

Saints picks after trade: 4, 38, 40, 71, 111, 130, 145, 186, 254

ETA: This trade would have the Pats giving up the equivalent value of the 19th pick in the draft, so it would be very fair for both teams. The trade in the OP has Pats giving up the equivalent of a mid 2nd round pick which is way to little.

I don't think Olave has any real value in a trade. He's had what? 5 concussions now? 6? I've honestly lost count. I recall he was having them in college. No ones wants to give up draft capitol for a player thats heavy concussion prone and already should consider retirement for health reasons.

This is probably closer to reality than being able to trade him. He's 1 concussion away from never playing again and not many teams would be willing to give draft capital for that risk.

Olave was the 11th pick in the 2022 draft. He has 4.39 speed, He has had 2 very good years & 1 injury filled year.

He isn't a bust...

The patroitswire writer is an idiot!

It's not a popular belief on here, but Olave is replaceable fairly easy. There are many WRs available through the draft and other means who are 6'0"-6'1" 185-190lbs and in his speed range. He's not an X, isn't durable enough to consistently go across the middle as a slot guy and isn't physical enough to be a good Z so he's replaceable.

We have Shaheed that can play Z, MVS who can play Z and there is other options available to play Z. We have KAJr and Means who can go across the middle and a lot of guys in the draft, etc.

What in the blue hell?!

Olave is worth a 1st round pick or 2nd rounder.....no way we trade a player along with our 1st for theirs.....ain't no way

Problem for us is that you're going to have to move Olave before he bolts and you get nothing for him. I don't see him resigning here.

I can feel an Olave trade coming. Just hope that the compensation is akin to what we got for Cooks - a late first rounder. It sucks, but it is what it is at this point.
Hard to see that happening. I would gladly take a 2nd round for him
