METAIRIE — One year ago, the New Orleans Saints were limping from a displaced season in San Antonio, facing a an uncertain future in a community struggling to recover from the ravages of Hurricane Katrina.
They had just fired coach Jim Haslett after a disastrous 3-13 season and were faced with the prospect of trying to sell the floundering franchise and wounded community to coaching candidates and free agents.
