Fassel fired from coordinator job

METAIRIE, La. - Ripping an offensive coordinator's play-calling duties is the ultimate seal of disapproval.
Sean Payton went through it while he was with the New York Giants. Then-head coach Jim Fassel didn't like the direction the Giants stumbling offense was going in during the 2002 season. Fassel relieved Payton from calling plays, leaving Payton as a lame-duck coordinator. Payton stayed with the Giants for the rest of the season and ended up with the Dallas Cowboys the following year.
