Reading Payton’s comments on the process versus Ingram’s interview posted in the article, it just feels awkward how the whole thing went down, like an overall lose-lose outcome driven by Mark’s agent. I’m still bummed how this played out but hopefully it works out for the best. Apologies if this article has already been posted hadn’t seen it on the board.

Yeah, there's no question that Ingram's agent really screwed this whole thing up. For both the Saints and Ingram. (He knows we offered more than he got from the Ravens. He's lying through his teeth about wanting to test his value on the market. The Ravens were the only team left when he signed with them and they got to low ball him.)

Or that our front office screwed up offering only $4.5 million per. There are two sides to this.
Where did you get that that is all we offered him? You really think we only offered him a $500K/year raise? Please. His agent obviously told him he could get a lot more than he ended up getting or he would have been signed at some big number pretty fast instead of being left with just the Ravens offering him a deal.

Whenever you break up the band, you run the risk of things going to _ in a handbasket.

On the other hand, there have been some pretty noteworthy and successful split-ups that were a win-win overall.

Would have loved for Ingram to stay. Only time will tell whether or not the Black and Gold will come out on the losing end.

You can’t be serious. Ingram and his agent didn’t negotiate in good faith with their unrealistic demands. The Saints had a reasonable starting point where they were still open to up the offer if the negotiations were in good faith. It’s silly to blame the FO on this one. Ridiculous!

We have no idea what his agent said.
But we do know that all of a sudden Ingram wouldn't respond to Payton's repeated calls, texts, and messages. Seems like a move directed by his agent - to show the Saints he wasn't going to sign early like he'd said he wanted to when he put out that message saying how he wanted to retire a Saint - because he could go get a $8MM/year contract or something ridiculous like that.

Ingram get plagued with bad agents. The drug exemption paperwork for a cold medicine being turned in late and now this contract extension

Other than losing Mark, this is what worries me the most. A large part of our locker room "fire and energy" came from Mark. I just hope we can continue to sustain that same kind of team chemistry moving forward.

How are agent contracts set up? Does the agent get more of a cut from a new contract versus an extension with the current team? Or is it a set percentage for new contract or extension?

Plenty of fire left in the locker room:

<> Drew
<> Cam Jordan
<> Can't Guard Mike
<> Demario
<> Thor
<> Banjo
<> Vonn Bell
<> Jared Cook (new, but certainly has fire)!
<> Swiss Army knife (Taysom)
<> Robertson
<> P.J. Williams
