Wins over Giants, Panthers bring a bye

METAIRIE, La. - New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton is never happy following a loss. Especially a loss where he admitted his team looked sluggish and flat, while lacking hustle, energy and effort.
The first-year coach was at least able to reflect, briefly, that the team displaced by Hurricane Katrina a season ago that went 3-13 in the process was able to bounce back to win its first NFC South crown Sunday and make its sixth playoff appearance in team history.
By no means was Payton thrilled with the Saints' play in the 16-10 loss to the Washington Redskins. But he recognized the team's stellar achievement that was thought of by many as far-fetched before the season.
