Pelicans have the 8th Pick in the 2022 NBA Draft (1 Viewer)

On the pels board the guy who seems to know the most hs been talking about Daniels for a couple months.

He has good size and length and is the best perimeter defender. He has a great float shot that should be virtually unstoppable since he is 6'7" and is a very good passer.
His FT shooting is not good. He got far better at 3pt shooting as the season progressed. His largest weaknesses are that he can be a bit flat footed and his shooting release is slow. He also isn't the most athletic.

However he has a great work ethic, he is smart, tons of potential, and by all accounts should be humble and a great addition to our locker room chemistry

Look at the size and length we have and this guy didn't even list JV

Fletch was calling this the ideal pick (realistically) for us back in May

Really comes off as humble and appreciative in interviews

Well damn...we might have gotten a steal in the 2nd round again with EJ Lidell. He had a first round grade and is another strong work ethic, strong defender type player.

Fun fact: Dyson Daniels is from Bendigo in Victoria, a regional city about two hours from the capital of Melbourne, which is the same city that Vic (from Vic's Kangaroo Cafe on Tchoupitoulas) is from.

This probably makes Daniels the world's most famous Bendigo resident outside of the city New Orleans, and the second most famous Bendigo resident inside of it.

We've got to get to Bendigo, Morty! The cube...

Thrilled that we picked an Australian. Doubly so because I'll be in town for about two weeks in November and should (hopefully) get to see him in person.

This must be what it's like for Louisianans when the Saints pick someone from LSU.
Just keep him away from Zeetes.

A little confused how a G-League player was in the draft. I always thought they were draft-eligible prior to that point and just didn't get drafted.

Either way, good pick.

I was wondering the same. But it looks like he started playing G League before his 19th birthday and wasn't eligible till this draft.
  • Signed with Bendigo Braves, an Australian semi-pro(?) team at 17.
  • Attended NBA Global Academy in Canberra at 17
  • Passed up college offers to play for Ignite at 18.
  • Became eligible for the draft at 19.
"Eligibility:
    • Player must be 19 years old during draft calender year, and at least one season has passed since graduation of high school. If player did not graduate high school
    • Player must declare his eligibility 60 days before draft
    • Players are automatically eligible if United States player completes college eligibility or international player turns 22 by December 31.
    • An American player who signs a contract and plays for an international team is automatically eligible by age of 19.
    • No player is eligible for more than 2 drafts
    • Player loses college eligibility if agent is hired, or declares for draft twice"

Edit:
It also appears that the Ignite is a special team that sort of replaces the college year requirement for some outstanding young players. From the G League FAQ -

"9. What is NBA G League Ignite?

NBA G League Ignite is a team of NBA Draft prospects operated by the G League. Coached by Jason Hart, the team is dedicated to developing top young players through a program focused on NBA Draft readiness and growth of professional life skills. NBA G League Ignite is also comprised of NBA and NBA G League veterans to aid in the development of the prospects highlighting the inaugural G League Ignite roster.
