I've always felt the ranking of players should be done by tiers. For example, not changing the order, but converting their rankings to tiers, it may look something like this. Players under each tier would be considered in no particular order:

Tier 1: Lebron James
Tier 2: Kevin Durant, Steph Curry, James Harden, Anthony Davis
Tier 3: Giannis Antetokounmpo, Russell Westbrook, Chris Paul
Tier 4: Joel Embiid, Jimmy Butler, Paul George

etc..
