Kansas City coach Herm Edwards implied that the Buccaneers and Rams may have tampered with C Jeff Faine and K Josh Brown respectively.

Both were desired targets of Kansas City, and Edwards could be placating an angry fan base. "We didn’t cheat. We abided by the rules. That’s how you’re supposed to do it, and that’s what we did," Edwards said. The 49ers had to give up a fifth-round pick and swap third round picks with the Bears after being found guilty of tampering on Monday.

That would just be crazy if the commish starts coming down on teams and some how the Saints get a pick out of this.(slim chances)

I just heard on Sirius that Calvin Pace outright admitted his agent had discussions with a team or two prior to free agency starting....

Maybe they'd give us TB's third or fourth, we could use the extra picks....

This is very interesting. If they did break the rules, I wonder what would happen....It's not like we're interested in swapping picks with TB, we pick before them.
I was sorry to see Faine go, but to go to a division rival without even considering any other offers......sounds fishy......

maybe the comish is trying to get the spotlite off of his botched spygate investigation. :homer:

Exactly. Giving the Bears something for nothing was ridiculous. AND, the Bears kept their player. What is the penalty for a player actually leaving? Should both the Saints and Chiefs be compensated? What a crock! Goodell really messed this one up.

Watch nothing happen with this. The 49ers tampered with Briggs as early as October, so there may be a distinction for Goodell to hang his hat on if he doesn't want to punish everyone. I think as long as the tampering didn't go on during the season, no draft picks will be exchanged. I think Goodell is going to end up issuing a final warning that tampering will not be tolerated and then next year the rules will be strictly enforced.

What's the highest paid center in the game worth? One that was stolen away by a division rival?

I know the rule must be enforced, but come on. The NFL and it's bretheren cannot be so naive as to assume that conversations don't take place before the signing period. The groundwork is laid as early as the previous offseason in some instances. It is tampering, but IMO everybody is probably delving into it to some degree or another. Every team can make the same claim.

Without quoting any one specific post in this thread, it seems like it comes down to two possible factors that will have have a bearing on a possible Tampa punishment: how early the alleged tampering occurred and the net measurable effect of the tampering on the team that was the victim of the alleged tampering. Honestly, I think the date of the tampering is all but irrelevant. The fact that he was our starter and he was the highest rated player available in FA should be a much bigger factor when determining what, if any, punishment should be doled out if the allegations are true. One could argue that tampering earlier (during the season) could have a stronger negative effect on the victim team than if the tampering had occurred after the season, since the player might perform worse if he is already in illegal talks with another team--which would explain why the Bears got compensated even though they didn't lose the player in question--but in this case, seeing as we actually did lose the player in question, I would argue that the measurable loss is much more damaging for us and that how early or late the tampering occurred in no way lessens the loss we suffered.

In other words, if there any any truth to this, I want picks from Tampa.

Time for Morris Bart--one call, he does it all. We need to be compensated for some serious injury to our line. :tribe:
