Perhaps Payton can learn a thing or two from SF (1 Viewer)

Last year most everyone wanted to see a Saints/KC Super Bowl. KC got shafted in the AFCCG and was like "We'll be back." They kept their word. The Saints... well the Saints did what they do best. They don't learn lessons.

If you examine each of the last few seasons and all the lessons that should've come from them - which ones did the Saints learn from? What did we fail miserably at in 2017 that we no longer failed at in 2019? Even if we did improve in some category, we regressed in another.

What's something meaningful that we can hang our hats on? Brees will break another record and we won't run the ball nearly as much as we should. Lessons schmessons.

Brees had both of those games won, why does he have to win them twice?
Because putting the team in a hole by being infective for 2 QT and throwing an Int in our territory is called "Winning a game".

Let's be honest... Ted Ginn bailed Brees out in the NFC championship on a grossly underthrown pass that should of been picked too. Not Brees

A
Did you forgot that Minneapolis 1st half and starting 0-8 on 3rd down.

NFC GAME..

Offense completely self destructing in OT.
And yet he brought us back against Minny & we would’ve won if Williams makes the inbounds tackle
The ref makes the PI call on Lewis we win that one too
Think of something else before first blaming the HOF QB

It helps that Mostert is ridiculously fast. He hits the hole at 20mph every time. We don’t have anyone like that on offense

Proving all the talk saints can’t win with Drew Brees weak arm is fake news. Drew doesn’t have to go deep at all...no need to go deep as evidenced by SF today...run the ball and dink and dunk... add a WR to compliment Thomas, add another RB and Drew doesn’t have to sling it deep, Rogers aired it out and looked pathetic and weak... Drew is the most accurate and deadliest passer... just give him another WR AND RB and Drew is golden for another two years... so what if he can’t go deep..? So? SF proved you can win without going deep. All this dumb talk that drew has to go because he can’t go deep? Laughable. Still the best QB in the league...

We’ll see how that works for SF when they go up against KC. Garoppolo won’t be able to keep up.

Or a QB that won't self implode like Brees has since 2017.

You mean the Brees that had us Four seconds from winning in Minny in ‘17? The one who was a historically blatant missed call away from a Superbowl trip in ‘18? Or the one, who despite playing like trash for three and a half quarters, led us down the field to ensure overtime for the defense to give the game away in two plays?

‘19 is probably the only true season that can be mostly laid at Brees’s feet. Every other out was some miracle phenomenon hat eliminated our team.

Even a casual observer could tell you that the AFC is no where in the same universe as tough as the NFC. That conference is the equivalent of the NBA’s Eastern conf. over the past decade.

In the AFC, you pretty much could ink in which franchises would make the playoffs every season. In the NFC, every year a new team emerges. Hell, the 49ers were 4 & 12 last season.

I’m not saying what KC did was an easy feat, but the gauntlet all NFC teams have to run to get to the big game has been much more difficult for at least 10 years now.

I know. There's always an excuse (football is literally and figuratively like religion).
In an average year, yes. The NFC is harder to navigate than the AFC.
No doubt about it. But the way last year ended, this season wasn't supposed to be average. Not for the Saints. But I've learned once and for all that those narratives don't really mean anything. Saints might not have learned any lessons, but I have.

It is really feeling like Drew missed his chance this year. He had a really bad game against the Vikes and we didnt run at them as we should have.

Might be time to start fresh, still a ton of talent on this team.
