Not trying to be Debbie Downer, but he looked god awful in the NC game. I know its Bama but seeing a player against Nfl level talent is what I'm most interested in.
True, but LSU made Trevor Lawrence look pretty ordinary once upon a time. I certainly didn't come away from watching that game thinking, "yeah, that kid is definitely a first overall pick." Not saying it's the same thing, but you can't just look at a single game. Brandin Cooks produced in every single game in his final NCAA season while OBJ had games where he wasn't on the stat sheet.

@Polo_Haynes2.0 care to elaborate on why your upset about the pick 😂
Simply put, I've seen him play several games, nothing @ at all jumps out @ you about him! Especially as 2nd rounder, when Sean Payton was clear about drafting best player available. Warner looks nowhere near NFL starter ready. Could've kept Anzalone quite frankly.

Also, Werners glaring negative: this very noticeable. Traditional lbers who are better than decent keep driving their feet during tackles. Werner doesn't! Also glaring, literally gets stonewalled on a lot of solo tackles to where his feet comes to a complete stop. Thats not a good lber in my book. We couldve kept Anzalone because this guy will not be better. Hope I'm wrong but I guess this whole RAS rating is the new rage. So what do I know since I'm just a fan, and my eyes are apparently terrible since Werner clearly doesn't pass the eye test of ever being anything better than just decent!

It is funny how on this board that you're just a fan of the team and you know nothing because your not a "professional scout" with perfect eyesight with posted credentials so the next 200 members that don't know you or your life can be the judge of your knowledge or vision.

Its also hilarious the amount of members that happens to LOVE the Werner pick but was ready to blow their brains out at the Turner pick. The Turner pick makes sense, it makes even more sense knowing how Sean Payton can be cute whether it hinders the team or not, because he wants to match the wits of 31 other head coaches and prove just how clever he is. The Turner oozes Payton's chess matches eventhough it was reported Ireland was a over Turner last Fall. So Payton's actually betting on the Turner pick more than the Davenport debacle.

Could go on and on but it wouldn't matter here. Sad, we haven't drafted worth a crap @ Lber in over 16 years. This Werner pick will be no different. Same crap year in year out, when it comes to defense. The members that actually like the Werner pick is hilarious, considering they obviously have better eyes than the members that don't! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

End of the day, no matter how good anyone in college was. Every single one of them needs to become a better version of themselves to succeed in the pros. The same skill won't cut it for more than a couple instances.

I always wonder about how I felt about guys like Leighton Vander Esch now. Because I can't separate my mind from what he is now.

You are exactly right. The good thing is that Werner has a very high football iq and is very good in coverage but at the NFL level he will need to add weight, there is no doubt if we want to keep him healthy as the tackling machine we envision him to be

BTW, I'm not upset/mad about the pick. Just typical at this point if we're being truly honest with ourselves as Saints fans. Weird that the majority of our fans, all over the world, hated this draft as a whole, AGAIN! Especially the first 2 picks. But but that's just because they weren't big names. Yeah ok, some of us fans actually aren't blind. Some of us actually pay attention. Some of us actually watch college ball, and lots of it. Some of us actually like college ball more for all the right reasons. Some of us actually really know football. Some of us really actually know football without having to post our credentials. Some of us actually played the game for years and continued to evolve into super knowledgeable FANS OF THE GAME after it was over for us.

Its truly awesome to be a fan of the game first. To fall in love with the game 1st, before anything else, to fall in love with learning the game...none of that matters when you're a Saints fan though and are a member of Saints report.

IMHO, Werner was the “safest” pick the Saints made, and the closest thing to a sure-fire starter 3 years from now.

CSP stated that he will work as a WILL initially, but he also has the ability to do some MIKE.

I think Werner has a chance to be the best LB drafted by the Saints in a long long time.
3yrs....I see him starting this year we have openings at two linebackers spots Will and Sam so I don't know who is starting over him when only Davis is penciled in as a starter, this team is going younger and depending on younger cheaper talent.

Ironically I used to scout back in the day. But I guess I didn’t understand the negative rep and the response didn’t really back it up 😂. But I digress Werner should be a good pick up

Case in point: Cam Jordan. Outstanding measurables coming out of Cal, but it took him a while to become the beast he is now.

Can I go on record to say that some people need to stop waving the flag of "I am a knowledgeable fan?" We do not know who you are. This is a forum with a diverse group of fans with varying degree of knowledge and expertise. Share your opinion, debate your opinion, but patronize other members because they do not agree with you.

There is nothing more certain than the uncertainty of a rookie draft pick.

A lot of people on message boards say the right things bc they are scared of the backlash, clown emojis or whatever. Par for the coarse

Another interesting facet of drafting Werner is having drafted Baun last year. When I look at this draft I see the obvious fits between the player and his experience against what the saints do. And each of these players hits that RAS benchmark (except Book but that's probably slightly different).

So then when you cast your mind back to last year, we drafted Zack Baun - a well-regarded and productive tweener EDGE player. He seems like a real odd selection now as it's hard to see where we ever use that sort of player - a smaller, rush specialist. And as Sean Payton said, the vision for Baun is solidly as a LB.

So how did Werner and Baun compare, I thought to myself, as both are part of a new, young LB core. And ignoring relevant experience in terms of position, the similarity is uncanny. Same height, same weight, very close on speed, 3-cone and shuttle very close. The biggest difference in their physical characteristics is probably in the explosion metric where Werner does a good bit better. But yeah, they are near carbon copies of each other physically. Obviously one (Werner) is pretty good at coverage and the other (Baun) is pretty good at rushing the passer, but other than that, really similar. Which is interesting.

(Incidentally, Kaden Ellis is also listed as 6'3 238)

There is a group of Borg that patronizes anyone who doesn’t just eat the cheese of every pick, every move the team makes, etc….it’s ridiculous. Any time someone has their own opinion of a player, if it’s not all black and gold glasses, they’re chastised and told how ignorant they are. I’m sure it’s part of every message board for every fan base. And I’ll bet those folks are just as bigoted in real life and with most issues. Sad. Is what it is tho.
