I am doing this from memory, but the first mock draft by Pro Football Weekly contains some surprises. The first 11 picks:

1. Miami--Matt Ryan
2. St.L.--Jake Long
3. Atl.--Dorsey
4. Oak.--McFadden
5. K.C.--Ryan Clady
6. Jets--Chris Long
7. N.E.--Vernon Gholston (as a 3-4 OLB, makes sense)
8. Balt.--L. McKelvin
9. Cin.--Derrick Harvey
10. N.O.--S. Ellis (he will either go 9 or 10--he is ill suited to the 3-4 that N.E., Baltimore and the Jets play)
11. Buf.--Philip Merling, DE/DT, Clemson

I remember Doucet going 29 and Keith Rivers going 30 to Green Bay. I don't remember where Kenny Phillips was picked.

Miami drafted a QB that they were VERY high on last year...

I mean I know it's different management, but still - I don't see it.

I dunno, Beck didn't look good this season and, as you said, it's new management. Plus, at #1 you almost have to go QB and I doubt they'll be able to trade down.

I cannot see Miami passing on McFadden -- Ever since Marino they have been a run first with a strong defense mentality and personality --

At #1 why would you "have" to go QB?

At this time he isn't the highest rated player, not even one of them. Their defense is seriously getting older, and we all know that Parcells is going to want to start to work on the defense. So with Parcells wanting to do that, I'm really expecting to look at Chris Long or Glenn Dorsey - two of the top rated players.

Besides, it wasn't just Miami that had Beck rated highly. Many teams seemed to think that he would be NFL ready much more quickly than any of the other top QBs. He has been compared to a bigger, taller version of Drew Brees - which can't be bad.

Another thing to think about, is the fact that drafting two QBs in back to back years would have serious implications on their future cap space. It's not like they are close to being a great team anyway, I think they should give Beck a chance for a while, yet at the same time building the rest of the team up. In a year or two, if Beck isn't the answer - then start to think of grabbing a QB.

Beck was a 2nd round pick, so his cap numbers and contract numbers were probably a fraction of what Matt Ryan's would be as the number 1 pick.

Thanks, but I know where he was picked.

My point is that they would have BOTH QBs going against it, something that a team in that situation wouldn't exactly be wanting to be in. Especially considering how many positions of need that they already have.

It just wouldn't make sense to me, unless they were just completely sold on Matt Ryan - and not sold on anyone else.

I think the opposite is true. With Parcells now in charge, he is more likely to take either a offensive or defensive lineman or maybe a running back. Also, the team has contacted Trent Green about coming back and has Lemon and Beck. I don't see them going QB at all.

I don't see a RB either - Ronnie Brown really looked great before the injury this season.

He was playing the best football of his career, I doubt they force a high draft pick on a position that they already have talent at.

Ryan is not worthy of the #1 pick in the draft. That would make the pick of Ginn look like the steal of the century. Parcells is smarter than that.

I will be sick if Dorsey goes to Miami.....I don't think this mock looks that realistic. Miami drafting another quarterback? Mcfadden to Oakland?

i would love to see the saints get sed ellis but as yall say i dont see miami going with matt ryan or oakland with McFadden wow lol

If you know where he was picked and you understand how the cap works you'd know that it is a nonissue. His contract was 4 years 6.5 million w/ 3.5 guranteed (which counted against last years cap). His cap hit is nothing whether kept or cut, so if they think Matt Ryan is the guy they could draft him and it not be a problem.

Green should retire because of his concussions... Essintially, the Dolphins will be starting at ground zero with their franchise. I see either Ryan or trading down to accumulate more picks.

this is the most accurate in my opinoin, simply because the top 10 isnt filled with the 10 best players in college football like it usually is on every mock, how many times has the draft ended up looking the PFW mock looks?
