'13. New Orleans Saints (7-9) — Even though we know the nucleus of the team is returning, I had more difficulty ranking the Saints than any other team. Truth is, I could just as easily see them going to the Super Bowl as I could see them fall to 5-11. I want to say that Reggie Bush is going to channel his collegiate greatness, that Sean Payton will revert to his “offensive savant” status and that their supremely talented D-ends will consistently wreak havoc off the edge. Problem is, I can’t. As inconsistent as they are talented, it’s anyone’s guess as to where this squad finishes. One of the few areas where there is a dearth of capable bodies is in the secondary. You heard it here first: Asante Samuel will be Saint in 2008. (Oakland’s Nnamdi Asomugha is also a possibility, and if New Orleans nabs him instead, let’s compromise and say you heard it here second.)

Biggest strength: Quarterback. Then again, it’s “uh oh” time if Drew Brees goes down.
Biggest concern: Secondary.
Breakout player: WR Robert Meachem. Athletic marvel essentially redshirted in 2007.'

Lets hope that this does happen. I will be extremely happy to land Samuel. If we can sign him and Grant and Smith do reak havoc as he says we will be tough to beat. especially if McKenzie can come back from his injury.

Yeah, it's PFT; you can set your clock to them being wrong. (Edit: Didn't see it was PFW) Seriously, Asomugha? How do the Raiders not tag him? Now, if the Patriots are smart enough to let him walk, why should we break the bank for Samuel?

I think the reason why the patirots might have to let him walk is because of the money both he and Moss will demand. Now, they could Franchise Moss if they wanted to, but I would be surprised if Samuel returns to the Patriots. He would be a huge addition to the Saints if signed.

Samuel is a proven player, but the money he demands would cripple the team. I am for spending money to improve the team, but this defense needs more than one player.

It's not PFT, it is PFW (Pro Football Weekly). FWIW, Pro Football Talk rumors have had a pretty good track record over the past couple of years.

If we spend a ton of money on Samuel and not address the LB and DT situation... we'll be near last in the league in defense again.

I really don't want them to pursue a marquee CB.. I'd rather sign a solid vet at a lower $$, and take a couple solid man CBs in the draft... but if they do... i hope we have a new starting 3-tech, MLB, OLB, and FS... and hope that Gibbs gets aggressive with his playcalling.

You are right, they have got much better with their reporting. (Actually hard to beat them on inside info. A long way from the "Enquire" status they used to have)

As to Samuel, he would be a bank breaker but with a few other pieces in the draft this D could be much better with his arrival.

Actually i would be all for this why not sign an elite CB who will lead this defense... He is a playmaker who i would be more than happy to break the bank

Because he would cost so much money that we would actually be near the CAP as opposed to having the extra 5-10 million that we normally have on it going into the season.....:hihi:

Seriously though, being as how we normally have lots of leftover money, there really isn't much of a reason. When's the last time we broke the bank on a DB? And when's the last time we had a good secondary?

Its about time.

Samuel would be a nice addition, especially if McKenzie can return and play to form. Now if only they didn't have to play so much run support. Three new linebackers can help there. The linebackers we have now are better than the Hazlost days, but that ain't saying much since in the Hazlost days they were almost vacant air on the field.
