Welcome to the second major tournament of the 2022 golf season. The big stories once again are Tiger & Phil… but for very different reasons.

Tiger is shooting for what some are considering to be ‘the impossible dream’ as he continues to battle back from the severe injuries sustained in a car accident about 15 months ago. No doubt a lot of folks will tune in for his attempt at major #16.

However the defending champ Phil Mickelson is in full blown damage control mode as he has officially pulled out of this second major due to the comments he made concerning the Saudi-backed LIV Golf Tour as well as his desire to be part of the large cash payouts for the tour players who move to support the new league. There is disappointment for sure by the PGA that Phil is a scratch, but there are still plenty of good storylines to follow for this 104th edition of the PGA Championship.

To boost the interest in this year’s tournament, the PGA has assembled some very notable groups for the first two days at Southern Hills in Tulsa, OK. No doubt the majority of the patrons (and TV cameras) will be attached to the threesome of Woods, McIlroy, & Spieth. Should all three make the cut & be in contention, it could turn out to be an unforgettable championship to follow.

Many experts feel that the smart money should probably be on the current #1 ranked golfer, Scottie Scheffler. But perhaps the previous #1 player John Rahm can regain his magic on the storied layout. Either way, it appears that there will be good reasons to be excited for this year’s edition of the PGA Championship!

Long drive hitter Bryson DeChambeau had to withdraw from the tournament citing a need for more healing & rehab from his recent hand surgery which required removal of his hamate bone.

It doesn’t appear that the current state of his game would have made him much of a threat to the heavy contenders, but he was always good for a few highlight reel shots as he will occasionally show his ability to launch his drives 400+ yards in the right conditions. Hopefully he will heal up quickly and return to form.

They are on the course now. Tiger birdied his 1st hole. Three leaders at -2 (Daly, Yang, & MacIntire).

Probably not laying any money on this but a 2 pick parlay of McIlroy top 5 and scheffler top 10 pays +700.

I think it’s more likely that Scheffler will be a top 5 and McIlroy will be a top 10.

Rory just can’t seem to get his old form back completely even though he has shown a few flashes of brilliance of late. However, Spieth seems to be hitting his stride of late.

Obviously no one can rule either of these guys out of getting another major this week

Homa & Zalatoris are really looking strong early on. Currently they are both at 3-under.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see one of these up & coming young guys hoist the trophy this year.

If Rory can produce like this for all 4 rounds, he’s going to be tough to beat. And he’s doing all of this surrounded by a ‘Tiger-size’ gallery. He’s definitely loving the cheers of the patrons!

Tiger is back to 2-over after landing in yet another greenside bunker on Hole 4. The winds are getting quite brisk today.
