please wear a mask (1 Viewer)

I have a couple large pieces of this. A friend of mine used to work in device sales, so he spent lots of time in the ORs with his companies products, supporting the surgeons. He gave me some of these for reasons I can't remember, but I cut them and used them as shop rags. Still have a couple.

Any old t-shirt works fine. Just pull it over your head, partially and then knot the sleeves in the back.

(This is sarcasm, not medical advice, please do not take seriously. Also, please do not utilize this as a burgling technique).

when I saw all the people coming out of the store with masks of various sorts today I had the odd thought of that Kirk Russell film where they knocked over a casino during an Elvis convention. I’m surprised I haven’t heard of it happening yet.

“he was wearing jeans, a white tshirt and a mask officer. Is that helpful?”

There is a major misunderstanding about wearing masks. A mask is not meant to keep you from contracting the virus. Mask wearing is meant to keep you from spreading the virus if you are a carrier and don’t know it. You can have the virus and be asymptomatic, we all know that by now. Please wear a mask when you go in public places. It’s not for you, it’s for those around you. The US gov, CDC, WHO is finally coming around, but they are far behind in understanding the importance of this. Wear a mask.
I have been on this topic for a while and with just the explanation you provided. I was very disappointed in Trumps comment about wearing mask yesterday as he could have made a HUGE difference in making this a reality. Here is the other point on this. Wearing a mask will not raise your risk of catching the virus if you still practice all the other precautions ... the only possible thing that could happen if everyone wears as mask is that fewer people get the virus.

I contact Kroger on their website and asked that they make masks mandatory inside their stores to protect workers, shoppers and their merchandise on the shelves. If they were to start this other would follow. Its slowly gaining traction but it needs to mandatory as it would not hurt but only provide a benefit.

I am going to try the material that is in a Filtrete air filter. They make ones that filter bacteria and viruses. I took a regular one apart so my guess is that the actual fabric they use must be different on the ones rated for bacteria and viruses.

I will sandwich this material between other fabric. Worth a try.

What I have read is that if you can see light through the fabric is it not efficient.

Not gonna lie, this movie was fun as hell...

This makes me think of a question, and a serious one.
With the Middle East having that burqa I think it’s called? Wonder if their rates of spread and infection are lower than the worldwide average?

Sorry, if that’s too far with that wording I’ll delete. ?.?
Didn’t think of that word maybe being too much on EE.
I find it’s just not good to be in that mood while facing a solitude inducing quarantine. Lol

I’m going to be arrested for self abuse soon at this rate.?

Like the Beatles said. "Let it Be." ?

Given how fast the other coronavirus thread moves, I thought I should cross-post what @kat5s posted in that one, I think it is valuable and appropriate here.

The pdf linked is pretty good, looks like vacuum filters are pretty good, but might be difficult to breathe through (if you are jogging).

Reposting this...little more pertinent today than on 3/18
Tracked down some more info:

Two Dish towels are not very easy to breathe thru...performance/comfort was two layers of yt-shirts

Layman's Article :

Original Article (2013):

Note, the primary reason for the difference in efficacy of these materials in block B Atrophaeus (a bacteria) and bacteriophage MS2 (a flu virus) is that bacteria in general are about 10-fold larger in size. So the size of the pores (gaps) of the material is important.
