There is a major misunderstanding about wearing masks. A mask is not meant to keep you from contracting the virus. Mask wearing is meant to keep you from spreading the virus if you are a carrier and don’t know it. You can have the virus and be asymptomatic, we all know that by now. Please wear a mask when you go in public places. It’s not for you, it’s for those around you. The US gov, CDC, WHO is finally coming around, but they are far behind in understanding the importance of this. Wear a mask.

Dude, where you been —seems like it’s been a while since you posted!

Lurking from Thailand. Everyone wears masks here. When I got on the public transport a few weeks ago and realized I was the only one not wearing a mask I understood it’s me, the dumb foreigner who listened to the CDC/WHO about masks, who is putting others at risk.

Masks are now mandatory here. The virus seems to spread mainly through exasperated droplets. People need to wear masks, not for themselves, but for others.

I rarely hear this explanation as to why masks are needed, just wanted to make it clear why masks are important even for those who are completely healthy. Healthy people can spread the virus.

The virus hasn’t been that bad here in Thailand, and I wouldn’t doubt that the fact that almost all Thais are wearing masks in public places has been a significant deterrent.

I want to try and find something online for my family this weekend, since you can’t find anything locally. I bought some bandannas for the time being — wear one once and throw it in the wash. Better than nothing, plus we get to look like bandits in public!

Even if you just wear a cloth mask, well that’s not going to prevent you from inhaling harmful particles necessarily, but it can contain your own exasperation. That’s why you wear the mask, to contain what comes out of you.

Thanks learned something new. I thou g t the mask fully protected you from the virus. Well either way mask help stop the spread.

Yes you will surely get dirty looks for not wearing a mask in asia right now. I was in Udon in February but cut my trip short and came back to the US about march 1 as it was really starting to gather steam then.

Oddly enough, Newegg.com had masks yesterday. I was looking for something else and it popped up.
