http://profootballweekly.com/2009/10/02/plodding-jones-slowing-jets-young-offenseHe's 31 years old and unhappy about his contract — and Thomas Jones' underwhelming production recently adds fuel to the notion that the Jets' emerging offense won't overextend itself to get the 2008 AFC rushing champion untracked. Offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer publicly says that the running game's tepid results have been largely because of stacked boxes and offensive line communication mix-ups, but those appear to be thin veils for the ground game difficulties when it's easy to see a plodding, less urgent Jones taking handoffs, especially when compared to the bounce in No. 2 RB Leon Washington's step.
Due to earn almost $6 million in 2010 — the final year of his four-year, $20 million contract — we hear that it's all but a forgone conclusion that Jones is in his last season in New York, although there's still hope that he will be a valued cog in the '09 attack once defenses start respecting the passing game.
