Cops went to the home of a 92-year-old woman in Atlanta to serve a warrant.

She shot three of them. Shot one in the leg, one in the arm, one in the shoulder.

They shot her and killed her.

"They killed her, they shot her down like a dog, and I'm upset. Somebody is going to answer to it, 'cause I'm going to sue like hell! I'm going to sue like hell! Let Atlanta know that."

(CBS/AP) A police official said narcotics officers were justified in returning fire on a 92-year-old woman they shot to death after she shot them as they tried to serve a warrant at her house.

Dozier said her aunt owned a pistol and she had a permit. "I don't know what kind and it was rusty, but apparently it was working well," she said.

If you open fire on law enforcement you ARE prepared to die. This is insane. She was ready to kill them, all of them if she could, and no one raised heck about that.

Yes, Gami, Chief Pennington is scheduled to meet with civil rights leader, Rev. Markel Hutchins, later today.

The shooting comes at a time when there is already concern over use of force by police in the area. Earlier in the day, the district attorney in neighboring DeKalb County, where 12 people have been killed by police so far this year, said her office may present evidence to a grand jury that could bring criminal charges.

Atlanta assistant police Chief Alan Dreher, in a news conference outside the hospital emergency room, declined to confirm the identity of the woman, but he said the warrant was served at the correct address. He said he did not know what name was on the warrant. He said the woman was the only one in the home at the time.

No arrests or drugs, just dead old lady.

No hiding behind hostages or claiming she had a bomb like the young pansies we get for gunmen these days. It was just her versus them, mano a mano, Bonnie and Clyde style!

Well, there are two sides to look at here. 92 year old lady, sitting in her home, in I'm guessing what is a not-so-great neighborhood. Police say they knock at the door and state who they are before entering. I'm guessing a 92 year old can't hear quite as good and you know when police come into someone's house, they don't just poke their head in the door and ask, "anyone home?" I'm thinking they kicked the door open, alarming the woman, and she began opening fire on the strangers that were in her house.

The other side of the coin shows a different outlook. Police are given a warrant for someone in a less-than-stellar neighborhood. Upon arrival, they go through the routine of, "open up, its the police." Not knowing they are at the doorstep of an elderly lady who might be hard of hearing, they barge into her house and are fired upon. Comes to the point of kill or be killed and they took the first option.

"Every window in her home and every door on her home has burglar bars," said Dozier. "I talked to her the other day about a 72-year-old who was raped. I know she was just scared."

"I'm just concerned as to why they would be knocking on a 92-year-old lady's door about drugs when there are so many other doors of houses they could have been knocking on that they are well aware of," Beckham said.

Assistant Atlanta Police Chief Says:

Drugs were purchased from a male inside the residence who has not yet been arrested. It was an undercover purchase prior to the search warrant. It was a no-knock warrant and the police announced themselves prior to entry. Door forced open and immediately fired upon returning fire.

The info they had prior to the raid was that an undercover officer had purchased drugs from a male immediately prior to getting the search warrant.

The woman had a revolver.

The individual that had been reported arrested earlier was not related to this raid in any manner.

So they didn't knock and broke the door down and they got shot. Nice job with the no knock warrants Supreme Court.
