Pain Compliance? That's what we're calling it now?

Does anyone watch Audit the Audit on you tube? It is basically a video channel about police abuses..

And removal of qualified immunity which lets them violate your civil rights so long as it is in a fashion not considered before.

Thus, individuals whose rights were violated by police or other officials could sue them in federal court. It was supposed to deter bad actors who violate the rights of people in the course of their duties. The law says nothing whatsoever about those officials having any defenses against those suits.

Nevertheless, the Supreme Court invented a defense known as “qualified immunity.”

Jay Schweikert, a Policy Analyst with Cato Institute’s Project on Criminal Justice, explains here, “This doctrine, invented by the Court out of whole cloth, immunizes public officials even when they commit legal misconduct unless they violated ‘clearly established law.’ That standard is incredibly difficult for civil rights plaintiffs to overcome because the courts have required not just a clear legal rule, but a prior case on the books with functionally identical facts.”

If I understand this correctly, There has to be a ruling against qualified immunity before there can be a ruling against qualified immunity?

An explanation of the term "defund the police" is probably needed.

It isn't, generally, being suggested that their compensation be dropped, or even have staff cuts.

What's being suggested is that they don't need surplus military equipment. If they need to drive around in armored vehicles, and use M16's, etc. then you need the National Guard and to address the reason why your society has failed. If your society has failed the people so far as the police get to play army, it has failed its citizens and you are living in a police state.

Take the money that is used on that ridiculous equipment and spend it on programs that attrmpt to solve the problems before the manifest as violence.

Agreed, although there was talk of literally disbanding the police in Minneapolis for a bit. And there have been large departments significantly cut this year, and not just the excessive stuff you're talking about.

But I agree that there is some ground between ridiculous equipment and understaffed police. No idea where that line is though. I guess each city has to figure that out.

Maybe if we had a unified movement against police abuse we could put an end to these.
Instead, we have a bunch of bickering over race. Great job people. One more event of police murdering someone.
