.

The scary thing is that, with all of the cameras out there and national attention, there are very likely LESS instances of police brutality out there than there have been in, well, ever in the modern era

.......White people, these killings are cruel and urgent reminders that we must sprint, not walk, to dismantle white supremacy. Black lives are an inexcusable price to pay for our unwillingness to act.

If you're a white person who considers yourself anti-racist and you don't think this applies to you—it does. The truth is, too many white people "doing the work" continue to treat the bare minimum of anti-racism work like it's the most.

We treat it like a checklist that we get to pat ourselves on the back for. Post a black square? Check. Read an anti-racism book? Check. Join the diversity committee at your workplace? Check. March in a protest? Check. Stand up to your racist aunt? Check.

But a checklist won't dismantle white supremacy. We need to deeply embed anti-racism into our identity, our purpose and every facet of our life. This work requires our full-throttle empathy and total commitment to dismantling an archaic, dangerous white supremacist system. And if we can't even muster empathy and the energy to do the bare minimum, then we should at least be informed on how white supremacy hurts white people too....

If being actively anti-racist and setting boundaries feels risky to you as a white person, maybe it is. Maybe you risk irreparable rifts in your relationships, repercussions at your job, awkward family gatherings, or being labeled as "so serious all the time." But when Black people's biggest risk is their lives, our low-stakes risks don't get any priority.

Our proximity to white people who may never hear anything about anti-racism elsewhere is where it is most important we speak up. It is our responsibility to be intentional, consistent and loud.........

I don't need to read a book, post a square, join a diversity committee, or march in a protest to know right from wrong. I will continue to judge on the content of character. What is active anti-racism anyway??

And while i'm thinking about it. I wonder why the headline in the latest police shooting didn't read as such. "Police officer saves teen from knife attack, saving her life"

I read (probably here) that think of anti-racism like being anti-pedophilia

You're not a pedophile, you don't raise your kids to be.

That's great But if you're walking along and see a grown man molesting a ten year old, or see someone at work looking at child porn, or hear a group of people making inappropriate jokes, or overhear someone say terrible things that are obviously not a joke, it's not enough to just say "Well, I'm not a pedophile, I don't know that guy, I don't know that kid, it's none of my business and doesn't affect me", then ignore it and go about your day

You'd say something. You'd do something.

And if you weren't getting anywhere, you'd say something else, you'd tell someone else, you'd do something else.

You would be very much actively anti-pedophilia

The NC judge in Elizabeth City has denied Andrew Brown's family's request to release the various video footage to the public - requiring a 30-day waiting period in the interest of public safety and the investigation. He ordered that the family be provided screening of all of the video (they saw 20 seconds of video on Monday).

The police allege that Brown attempted to hit officers with his car. These kinds of cases are always challenging - a car is a deadly weapon, even if the driver is unarmed. But the video will likely show quite a bit about how it all went down. Unless there's a leak or a change from legal, that won't happen for another month.

does that mean the footage will be released after 30 days?

Two New Jersey police officers are facing civil rights and obstruction of justice charges for allegedly assaulting an Arab American teenager and then lying about it on a police report, according to the New Jersey US Attorney's Office.

Paterson Police Officers Kevin Patino and Kendry Tineo-Restituyo appeared before Magistrate Judge Andre Espinosa on Tuesday to face charges that they allegedly deprived Osamah Alsaidi, then 19, of his constitutional right to be free from unreasonable searches and seizures and then lied about the incident on a police report, court documents state. The December 2020 incident was captured on surveillance video and prompted an investigation by the New Jersey Attorney General's Office in February.......

Alsaidi, who was on his way to his 1 a.m. shift at Amazon, sustained multiple physical injuries as a result, including head trauma, a concussion and multiple cuts and bruises, as well as anxiety, stress and depression, Navas said at the time.

Prosecutors allege in court documents that both Patino and Tineo-Restituyo approached Alsaidi, who was walking with his hands in his pockets, and grabbed hold of him, punched him multiple times, threw him to the ground, and continued to assault him while he was on the ground. The officers had been responding to a call of a "suspicious person," according to a criminal complaint.

Patino and Tineo-Restituyo also stand accused of making numerous false statements in a police report about the incident.

"For instance, the police report falsely stated that the victim had walked towards the officers 'screaming profanities' and 'acting belligerent' and that the victim had struck Patino with a closed fist in the chest. None of this was true," a press release from the New Jersey US Attorney's Office states.....

If convicted, Patino and Tineo-Restituyo each face a maximum of 10 years in prison for the civil rights violation charge, a maximum of 20 years in prison for the falsification of a record charge, and a maximum fine of $250,000 for each charge, according to the US Attorney's office.........

Something that the alleged "good apples" in the LEO community are going to have to take note of one day. Shirt like this will erode the assumption of factuality in court regarding police reports. Y'all will lose your advantage of presumed truthfulness when giving testimony because your pig brethren keep lying on their reports and YOU keep backing them up.
Is that the world you really want to build?

If he thinks waiting 30 days will limit the ferocity of the eventual public reaction if that video shows what I fear it will, he’s sorely mistaken.

So, 5x as many white people in US than black people. 1733 white people shot to death, 731 black people shot to death. Percentages are not close to being equal..
Even worse is that in 2020 they shot more people than in most previous years (regardless of race) in a pandemic where people were staying home more and police shootings were at the forefront of media attention.

THEY DON'T GIVE A FORK.
