Popeye's Chicken Sandwich (2 Viewers)

Krispy Krunchy can be very good, but it wrecks me worse than Popeye's does.

It's on Broad between Orleans and Ursulines. I'm pretty sure they "broast" their chicken (pressure fry). I have had very good chicken from there, but last time the pieces were really small and it was all pretty marginal.

Krispy Krunchy definitely does a number on my stomach as well.

Dude, you’re missing out. On Broad near Esplanade. It’s been there awhile, at least 15 years from what I remember.
Get the 3 piece with beans and rice. It will change your life. I went last week when everyone was talking about this damn sandwich.

I can't believe I've never seen or heard of this place. I lived in Mid City for most of my life - even grew up right off Esplanade and Broad on DeSoto St. - and this is the first I've heard of it. We used to skip school at McDonough #28 (that big square white school building on Esplanade almost right across from the CC's) and we'd walk the streets all around there smoking pot and getting food when the munchies struck. Then again, 15 years ago I was at UNO, not in 9th grade anymore. Definitely going to give it a try next time I'm looking to get something to eat in Mid City. Is it an actual sit down and eat restaurant?

Should be on a pretzel bun

No, it’s a hole in the wall take out only place. When I pick up, I usually start devouring it in my car as soon as I get in because it’s still hot and smells awesome.

Nice. I'm actually a big fan of hole in the wall takeout places - which is kind of obvious considering my love of Manchu.

While it is a bit greasy, the fried chicken our Safeway cooks up daily is crispy and the meat is moist and tender. And, it's about half the price of Popeye's. We get the 16 piece every couple of weeks. Only costs $16 and with some baked beans and a little buttered garlic toast, we can get a full meal for $20-$25 for 5 of us.

The only downside is it can be hard on my stomach at times so I try to keep it to a breast and a couple of drumsticks/wings.

I agree that the Krispy Krunchy CAN be good, but it all depends on the gas station. Some will serve you chicken that was fried the day before if it didn't sell while it was fresh. I'm sure they aren't supposed to do that but some stations definitely do. And those same stations can also be ones that have some of the really good chicken when fresh, so it just depends on when you go, and that makes me weary of getting it. At least with fast food places, they typically are either good or bad all of the time, so you know where to go and where to avoid.

Well, I don't have many connections in life but I do have access to fresh Krispy Krunchy chicken. My Pops owns a convenient store in nowhere, North Louisiana. He never leaves day old chicken. Honestly, he probably misses out on sales by not cooking enough. I don't know if I am lucky or unlucky that it doesn't mess up my stomach.

After reading this story, I’m left wondering if Popeyes was actually grossly negligent in unleashing what can only be described as soylent chicken onto the sandwich starved public without any warning whatsoever to their employees-

I read on twitter from a friend of a franchise owner that before they rolled them out Popeyes expected them to sell 150 sandwiches a day. They ended up selling 1000 a day. That's just insane.

I would agree but weren't these sandwiches out almost a month before the frenzy hit.

I think it was over a month ago and I went to Popeyes just to get a 2 piece and I saw the sandwich and asked for one instead but they were out of bread. It was a a weekday around 7 and I was the only one in the drive thru.

IMO, this fake we ran out of chicken add to force the app on us also includes some time to prepare restaurants now. But... Who really knows.

So they done sold out.

It all has a certain Krusty Burger Ribwich feel to it.

From what I have heard they are not "out of chicken" but are out of the bun.

The shortage is not nation wide. I was able to purchase 3 of them yesterday.

I think it depends on how hard your stores were hit in the area. I know the one closest to me here in LC had it scrolling on their sign SOLD OUT. The employees are probably grateful

That is true. The funny part was the sign inside said that they were sold out but they were pushing them out in under 5 minutes. The only thing that was missing was the "Popeyes attitude."
