Predict the Thomas extension (1 Viewer)

So how much of this would affect us in cap space (12m after Cam Jordan extension)?
My guess is we won't front load it like you normally would see since we have $12 million cap space left. So normally a deal like this might come with a huge signing bonus to be spread out to help the cap space in year 1.

Going with my prediction of 4 year $73 million, I think the signing bonus will be $16 million.

Salary
$6 million
$17 million
$17 million
$17 million

That was the title of an article after the first day but I wouldn't say "from everything coming out of camp." The reviews on WWL were a little more mixed..and we know P-Rob picked him off two days in a row.

If you read the articles, they’re more than just coaches and players generically praising a teammate. It’s onlookers who are out at virtually every session also being impressed.

Even Drew has his ups and downs in OTAs, minicamp and training camp. It’s the nature of it. But Bridgewater has been very impressive to everyone who’s been out there and seen it day in and day out.

And last night Mike Tripplett said he looked great in the first practice but was "up and down" after that. Hebert, Strief, and Deuce have all made similar comments on Sports Talk.

I expect nothing out of Bridgewater until I see what he does in regular season games that count.

4 years for:

Extension of 6 for 120 and 65 guaranteed.

No way he or his agent allow 6. They will push for 4, team will require 5.

Jului’s extension confirmed to be done by camp. Saints better get MT done first or else it will be 5 years and over 100 million if they plan on making him highest paid WR

It will depend on Julio’s extension and I doubt MT’s agent tries to get it done before JJ’s. Apparently he is soon to finalize 5 years. 100 million.

Thomas agent will use Julio’s contract as the template

Wow..... the WR market is just insane.

Literally not many years ago Drew Brees set the QB market with a 100 million dollar contract.

Now WR's are making that kind of Cheddar.

It's good to be ELITE, Cant Guard Mike def deserves it. I'm happy he is going to be here for a while. He has totally embraced this team and city.

Who Dat vs Everybody

Would you make MT the highest paid WR rather than make a Kamara the highest paid RB? I’m not certain it’s wise CAP management to do both

Kamara will reset the RB market with his insane ability on the passing game. But I still wouldn’t pay 12 mill APY for any RB and 20 mill APY is a tough pill to swallow on a WR. Which one would you keep?

Yea that's a tough one....

Typically elite WR's are retained on a more consistent basis then elite RB's

A running backs life span in the NFL is of the shortest of any position. In my opinion they take the most consistent punishment of any player on the football field.

Also it's usually easier to replace an elite RB's production then it is too replace an elite WR's production.

While I absolutely love both players. If I had to choose one. I would choose to resign MT.

I dont get paid the big bucks though. I'm happy I dont have to make a decision as difficult as that one lol

IMO it has to be MT. History shows that elite RB’s rarely play out their 2nd contract.
MT isn’t a freak athlete which means he wins by IQ, work ethic and technique. Those traits allow him to be really good into his 30’s. Kamara will be done by 30

It has to be MT. AK is an incredible player but he happens to play the most volatile position in football. In today's game it's difficult to justify investing huge money into a RB, no matter how good they are.

Exhibit A would be Todd Gurley. The Rams gave him a contract that averages 14.4 per year. Many people agreed that the Rams overpaid but the Rams could justify it because he was 23 years old and he was the best back in the league. They would have the peace of mind of knowing that they didn't have to worry about the RB position for the foreseeable future. Now Gurley has an arthritic knee and they just traded up to draft a RB in the 3rd round.

If they were being honest most front offices with these huge RB contracts would like to get out of them. You think the falcons feel good about Devonta Freeman being the 4th highest paid RB right now? Think the Bills feel great about having to pay a 31 year old LeSean McCoy 8 mill a year?
