I just want to say that even though the prevent defense sucks when it comes to stats, im pretty glad that we have a chance to play it when we're ahead... IMO, while playing in the prevent D, we are less intense and more of a thinking and reacting D... This make perfect sense. Dont get me wrong, we're still playing pretty intense, but at least we not trying to kill ourselves with a big time play going after the qb.

somebody needs to come up with some kind of revolutionary scheme other than this prevent. i hate watching them giving up yards and giving the team a chance to come back. the turnovers are great but we cant just depend on the offense to outscore every week.

Until Williams trusts this D more, don't expect this to change.

I think the ramifications of Jackson's 70-yard TD left a bad taste in GW's mouth for the remainder of the game. He wanted to make sure not to see that again.

Don't think for one second that we won't be going balls out @ Buffalo though. Remember, they did fire Williams.

First of all, we didn't play a "prevent" in the sense of going with virtually no pass rush and all DBs playing way-back. We generally rushed 4 and played a fairly "base" defense. So it's a misnomer. We just played 2-deep with the safeties playing "way-deep" and the CBs turning everything away from the sidelines into the middle of the field.

The Eagles had 3 (really 2) drives against this "prevent". It resulted in 2 interceptions, 7 Saints points, and one turnover on downs. The idea is to make them eat up clock to get into the redzone where you can tighten coverages up and end the drive there.

The only people who would possibly be critical of that part of the defensive gameplan are stat-obsessed fans more concerned about what Peter King will write tomorrow then whether we got the win or not.

Mora's prevent defense used to kill us. I still remember in the early 80's having Montana rip us apart when we would have a huge lead. Once we went with the prevent defense in the 3rd quarter and lost the game ( after a 35 - 7 halftime lead ).

Right. I don't think you "lay back" against a QB like Montana or, for that matter, Drew Brees. I think you have to stay in your defense and just hope they can continue to do the job. QBs like that are so effecient and such good decision makers in the redzone that letting them into the redzone (especially in the middle of a rhythm established getting down there) is basically just handing them a TD. Brees for instance is as close to automatic in the redzone as QBs in the NFL get these days.

But against a younger QB like Kolb or Stafford it's clearly a different story for what should be now-apparent reasons.

We probably wouldn't "lay back" like we did vs the Lions or the Eagles in the 4th against, say, Tom Brady, but the results more then justify doing it against Stafford and Kolb.

teams can be winning an entire game and then go into the prevent for the last couple minutes of a game and end up losing......the most recent example of this is the OSU v USC game

it happens to everybody....i hate the prevent and if the defense can stop a team the entire game, why would you change it and go into prevent for the last few minutes of a game?

IMO the prevent defense is good for one thing....letting the other team back in the game

i dont care anything about stats and dont watch peter "who ever that is" king. I just am tired of watching those big plays against our defense. I guess i just have a really bad taste in my mouth since the fred thomas 06 loss to the bears then jason david being stellar for two years.

The "big plays" you're referring too resulted in zero points. In back-to-back games.

kolb had a big touchdown on in the beginning but it wasnt against that "prevent". like i said, i just got a bad taste from the suspect backend we've had the past few years. you got to agree with that.
