Promising changes... where do we stand with Pete Carmichael? (1 Viewer)

Carr is your Guy? Open that darn playbook and let him roll thats what I would like. I dont want play calling where we score 13pts a game
Pete also called plays in 2012 without Sean has had the #1 offense. And called them for half of the 2011 season where it was best offense of all time.

Pete has been successful without Sean.

I am not a fan of Pete. Never have been. He has coasted for over a decade behind Sean and knew he wasn't qualified for OC when Sean left. He took it anyway. While I am excited for the players we are acquiring, I am not enthusiastic that our offense will do anything different than last year. Why are we still giving Pete another pass? I don't think he knows how to call in the red zone... Or to call anything different than rush rush pass punt.
When Sean was out for bounty gate, Pete called a 5000 + yds passing season, with statistically the worst defenses ever at the time.

Andy couldn't hit tight windows, you can't play call your way out of that. Andy hasn't been a top 10 QB for 4 years and 3 teams, but Pete called Andy to statistically to the 7th best QB last year.

Andy sucked last yr, and Pete got the blame. Carr will throw for 4000 + yds next season w/ Pete calling the plays. Bank on it. I don't really know how you can say Pete is unqualified? The stats just don't show that to be true.

Nope...because he took a QB that can put up numbers and cut his balls off with ineffective play calling. You call a series of 4 yard curls and throw a token deep route over the top and the QB waits to see if the deep is open then tries to come back to a curl if it isn't...he's going to have nowhere to go with the ball.

Our system was stale...plain and simple, you watch Minnesota or Buffalo play you constantly see receivers schemed open 10, 15 yards downfield consistently, we were micromanaging the QB position...telling our QBs throw to this guy at this point or there will be nothing else, and if they missed that window, they were stuck looking at 4 receivers at the end of their short routes.
I hate to disagree w/ you on this, but Andy couldn't make the tight throws. He just couldn't make the throws. IMHO Pete squeezed all the talent left in Andy. Peat made Andy look so good, he got a 2yr deal w/ the Panthers. Andy was the problem, not Pete. Pete made Andy a 7th ranking on a bad team. What do you think he will do w/ Carr? Pete will be calling to Carr's strength's. Car will throw for 4000+ yds this season.

How much of this was drew calling/changing plays?
I don't think that dog hunts. Brady and Manning didn't have the best offence and throw for 5000 + yds w/ the very worst defense in the NFL that yr.

Yes with Brees at QB, the playbook was wide open. Like I said Carr is your guy Open the Playbook and put up more than 13pts a game

Drew and Pete worked together to analyze coverages. Pete would send in 2-3 different plays, Drew would get to the line quickly and read the defense, use motion to create mismatches, and call one of 2 or 3 pre-selected plays.

THIS IS THE SAME THING GRUDEN DID WITH CARR.

Pete has not had anyone close to Drew when it comes to a QB with Superior PreSnap recognition, until now.

I expect a lot of people will be eating crow when it comes to Pete, by midseason or so.
Which begs this question: Why did we not run motion last year? Very little to none is what I remember.

I think a lot of the noise about our coaching staff is a result of a lot of people having unrealistic expectations of us just rolling into the season like nothing changed. We knew (or should have) that we probably weren't going to be a playoff team. We put way too much hope that JW was going to come and be a poor man's Patrick Mahomes.

The DA hate fest is ridiculous and PC may not be great at his job but I don't see how you can put all the blame on him. JW couldn't play and we were lucky to have AD to step in, he wasn't the problem. PC did about as much as can be expected considering all the carp he had to deal with. The Oline was a disaster of injuries, the only receivers we had worth their roster spot were rookies, and RB was disappointing.

We were not a good team last year but, again, we were way too optimistic going in to the season. And yeah we looked bad but so do 75% the rest of the teams in the League. We were in most games till the end and could have easily won two to three more games.

This year I expect us to improve, maybe winning 8-9 games and a possible playoff spot. (If the Oline doesn't turn into a MASH unit again.)

I don't have a problem with DA. I do have problems with Pete. He is what we said he would be.

I think he was referring to cutting JW's balls off But JW with his balls in Tampa just put up strawman numbers. I think it was JW's balls that seemed to get hi in trouble most of the time

With this defense, we would have 13 wins with those "strawman numbers."

I stand corrected. He was top 10 in every QB statistic and metric available at the time with the Chiefs being a Top 5 offense. And you are talking about barely cracking 4k yards when he averaged 1 less yard per game than Drew that season (he sat out the last game)

Now let me know what that has to do with his playoff performances, as we were talking about why the Chiefs didn’t make it to an AFC championship game. Sounds like I might not be the one grasping.
My reference was to you saying Reid had the holy grail and could do it without Mahomes but he didn't with Smith. And then you compare Smith to Brees in 1 category in 1 yr . You really need to change your SN to Jahstrawman brother

Um, he went to a divisional round and 4 straight NFC championship games with the Eagles. Andy Reid, when all is said and done, will go down and one of the 3 greatest coaches in the NFL.
-Out of 24 season, 17 with 10+ wins and only 3 season under .500
-Countless seasons with Top 5 and Top 10 offenses

Crap, MIchael Vick probably would have won MVP if he played an entire season in that offense. lol Maybe you need to do a little bit more research on Andy Reid.

And my only mention of Brees was you saying that Alex Smith "barely threw for 4k" yards as some sort of diss and I pointed out that his yards per game was 1 yard less than Drew's, who was #4 in total passing yards. He finished 6ths in yards per game, right behind Drew, but only played 15 games. So I was jus letting you know that the he didn't "barely" throw for 4k yards.

Maybe we can get your name changed to DCantreadstatsfla

Yeah if Brees would have had that D he'd have more rings than fingers
Agreed, but nobody is saying that he had "strawman numbers."

I do think Reid is a good coach but he nor anyone else has the offensive holy grail that nobody else has. It also goes to say that your top 3 all-time coach did not win a SB until Mahomes got there , in fact Reid was known for not being able to win the big games . It took an elite QB to get him there not an Alex Smith, not even a McNabb . Once again proof that a system can make a decent QB better but it can't make them ELITE . And 4032 yrds is JUST barely cracking 4000 yrds .
And I'm christening your new name as Jahwillcherrypickforfood

Who is cherry picking? Andy Reid was not just good; he was always considered a great coach, especially with what he did in Philly and the culture that him and Alex Smith created in Kansas City. And even this past Super Bowl, they won based on Andy Reid's adjustment, because the consensus is Jalen Hurts was the better QB. Travis Kelce said that if they still gave MVPs to a player regardless of winning, Hurts would have been MVP.

And you are barely cracking 4k yards even though you achieved it before the end of the season? LOL. He would have statically been Top 6 across the board if he played that last game but continue..lol
