Jairus Byrd fair caught a punt that he could've easily returned at least 10 yards resulting in the Saints having bad field position. On Carolina's next punt Tommy Lee Lewis was inserted as the returner and he blasts one for a big gain giving the Saints some much needed momentum that kept Carolina at bay at least until later in the game. Sure would like to see more of Lewis getting the ball any chance he can.

Byrd is just the fair catch guy when a team is kicking from near mid-field and is trying to pin us deep.

I think TLL is now our punt returner regardless.

Never understood why Byrd returns punts. All he does is fair catch it or let's the opponent down it inside the 10.

After today, assuming the Seahawks continue to shut down the Falcons, we'll lead the league in points scored, not just yards. That's the stat that counts.

We haven't done that since 2011 and when we lead the league in points scored, we end up being pretty good. So we'll see.

You answered your own question.

He's doing what Moore used to do. Fair catch punts inside the 10. In hindsight, you can say he had room, but they are going into that play planning to fair catch.

I guess that make sense, it's just frustrating because he's never a threat to do anything with it. We could take advantage of short punts when the opportunity arises.

Payton also elected to kick a 53 yard fg on 4th and 1 with all the momentum on the Saints side and a defense that had absolutely no answer for Drew Brees and company. The game is over if we march down for a touchdown instead. The comeback for Carolina began right at that point following the missed field goal giving Carolina excellent field position.
