MOBILE, Ala. – A few of the first impressions the New Orleans Saints got on the Senior Bowl practice fields this week might matter long past the NFL Draft at the end of April.

The grades and reports the Saints compile on these prospects could prompt an acquisition long down the line.

"Every report that's written in college is a historical document," Ireland said. "When it comes to free agency or players on other teams, on practice squads, or players that get cut, the only document that you have to rely on some of the medical, some of the character, some of the mental intelligence, is coming from the college database."

For example, New Orleans snatched rookie linebacker Travis Feeney off of the Pittsburgh practice squad in early December in large part due to his draft information.
