Prototypical slot receivers Edelman vs Sanders (1 Viewer)

That's why Manny is such a good fit for this offense. He's not just a little Slot Smurf running crossing routes all game. He can do so much more. Sanders has had a lot of success outside and inside.

He's about as well rounded a player as you could ask for.

Edelman is a slot receiver. Sanders can play every WR position. He played in the slot in PIT but he primarily played outside on the Broncos. The Saints now have two WRs that can fill all three WR spots.

If the Saints get an upgrade at flanker through the draft...I could see Sanders playing primarily in the slot or alternating with CGM. If the Saints get a guy like Justin Jefferson in the draft...he'll play flanker.

Gotta keep Manny in the slot unless maybe they’re in base. Denzel Mims or Quez Watkins in the 3rd to challenge TQS? Seems pretty likely now. Unless BPA @ 24 is still WR. In that case I hope Ruggs falls

We've tried the scatter shot method of finding a compliment for MT. Up until now we haven't spent much capital during the search. UDFA's and low tier vets. None have worked out. TQS has showed promise at times but has been limited by injuries in his 2 years with us. Signing Sanders is anything but a shot in the dark. He is literally the ideal WR with the ideal skill set to complete our offense. The ONLY question with him is his age. So far there have been zero signs of him slowing down or regressing. If he has 2 years of high quality play left in him, New Orleans' offense is about to jump a level.

This will present SP so many possibilities. He's a master at taking advantage of his players' abilities and using them to take advantage of an opponent's weakness.

This move allows the Saints to truly draft the best player available. I think they'll still draft a WR but now it's not as big of a need. The Saints once again use free agency to sure up the obvious need areas before the draft. This FO knows what they're doing.

This.

The best slot WR in the NFL is Michael Thomas. Sanders is very good in the slot as well.

Both also excel outside.

This kind of versatility for SP, along with Cook and Kamara, is downright scary.

It's about time they invest some capital into the position. They tried to go the budget route with Cam Meredith, Dez Bryant, etc. They have invested a total of one draft pick over the past three seasons when they took TQS in the 3rd in '18. They did get one good season out of Ted Ginn but that's about it.

I don't blame them for trying this route because they've had a lot of success at other positions doing the same thing.

Correct. And in that same time, they've spent draft capital and cap space on OL (Ram, McCoy), TE (Cook), DB (WIlliams, Lattimore) DE (Davevnport, Hendrickson) DT (Brown), and LB (Anzalone, Davis).

Only so much you can do and ALL of those things were just as pressing needs as WR2 at the time. Case and point? Even without making Big Moves to acquire a Big Time WR... our offense has remained one of the best in the league.

That being said, I'm glad we're finally getting to the WR position. That was a weakness, even though we've mostly been able to overcome it. The other BIG issue... coverage on 3rd and long? We got two Jenkins boys to shore that up as well.

We seem to be filling in the final cracks in the team. I'm ready for September (for multiple reasons)

He's Snead 2015-2016, but with more versatility.

Sanders is a lot smaller than all the WRs we've brought in for the past few years at 5' 11" 180 lbs.
Sean Payton has said that anytime you bring in a player that doesn't have the prototypical size, they have to have a redeeming quality.

Emmanuel's redeeming quality is his birthday. March 17th
His redeeming quality is that he's a Leprechaun.

Sanders will play outside and the slot. I’m sure Payton wants MT in the slot as much as possible as well.

it's shocking that with DB9 skill set (A+ accuracy, C- deep ball) we haven't focused more on an Edelman-type slot guy. Drew doesn't need a lot of window.
