I've looked around and all of the stores are now only offering the 40GB version (new they have all of them refurbed), which isn't backwards compatible. Is this something that Sony plans to address through a software update or are they just going to expect that you hold on to your PS2 as well?

Have you tried Xbox live? :ezbill:

I think Sony is done supporting backwards compatibility. Removing that chipset is one of the things that let them drop the price. I got mine early, so mine's backwards compatible, but I really rarely play the ps2 games.

i traded in my ps2 and 25 games and i have not had any regrets.....i have no desire to play any of those games anymore

.....i have the 40g

They are going to address it later. I read an interview with the Sony Reps. in EGM, and there stance was that you will have to pay for it via download, if you want it. That was there way of addressing the cost of the PS3.

only PS2 game I play on ps3 is Tekken 5. Never gets old.

You can get a $100 credit if you get a Sony Card, for you first total purchase of $299 above. You do not have to use the card at the Sony Style store, you can use it anywhere and get your PS3, thus saving you $100 on the purchase of a PS3.

I jumped on the deal, just waiting on my card and I will pay it off and cancel thereafter with a PS3 only costing me $299.

I got the 60gb and part of my decision over the 40 was the backwards compatibility.
I have only used one PS2 game since, and that was because my PS3 didn't read blu rays.
I thought it was essential, but you will forget all about it. If you really want to play PS2 games just use a Ps2

Thanks. I just "bought" a PS3 bundle with my American Express Points and the only one available was a 40GB, which was the same at all the major retailers and Sony's PS website. I know backwards compatability was something that PS3 had over the 360 in the beginning, but I guess that's changed to the opposite now.

Buy Warhawk.
