I haven't seen this thread anywhere, so I thought I would post it as it has been a subject of much discussion lately.

Mike Sando polled NFL Executives to see if he could get their rankings on Qbs, and attempt to put them into a tier system. The list covers all qbs who are listed to start the year, but where these guys fall is curios.

He has 3 players listed in tier 1, 12 in tier 2, 13 in tier 3, 5 in tier 4.

Here is the list.

I don't agree with Brees ranking, and it's not because I am a Saints fan. Based on what Tier 1 is built on, the qb can carry his team each week. Team wins because of him. Is that not Drew? So why isn't he in Tier 1?

Good, we play better when we are under the radar. Plus Brees has a thing to prove people wrong.

"I can't see Drew Brees being in the 2s," said a defensive coach who was one of 17 voters placing Brees in the top tier. "Want to get into a shootout? It's a large antiperspirant/deodorant game for us on defense. I don't see the deterioration. He is a victim of his cast of characters.
This pretty much sums it up. Drew has lifted this team almost every year since he's been here; we have never had a roster with elite talent by NFL standards.

If anything about Drew's game has declined, its that he's not quite as nimble in the pocket as he once was. Of course, that might be attributable to declining guard play in recent years.

By the standards of this ranking, no QB on a middling team could be considered Tier 1. But didn't Roethlisberger suffer through 2 middling seasons in 2012 - 2013? And didn't the Steelers have perhaps the best collection of skill players in the NFL last year? Its so hard to separate the accomplishments of a QB from his team, and to me this ranking makes little effort to do that.

Speaking of Roethlisberger:

He has a hose. He is huge.

That's ok... Hopefully Brees gets hold of this list.

Before the start of last years NBA season, a similar list by GMs, scouts etc
said that no way Steph Curry wins the MVP. He became the first unanimous MVP.

These guys are totally biased when it comes to these types of rankings.

These executives they spoke with must be polishing their resumes, because with the thinking that put this list together they are about to be looking for new jobs.

Often times when they say "a head coach" or "a general manager" I think that they don't distinguish between "head coach" and "former head coach" because when there's no chance for identification, why not buffer the credentials of your source a little bit? :hihi:

Brees turned 37 in January, but he is the only quarterback in the NFL to post a QBR score of 70 or higher in each of the past three seasons. Is that a player in decline, or is it a player going above and beyond to prop up a team that has been historically bad on defense?

"I can't see Drew Brees being in the 2s," said a defensive coach who was one of 17 voters placing Brees in the top tier. "Want to get into a shootout? It's a large antiperspirant/deodorant game for us on defense. I don't see the deterioration. He is a victim of his cast of characters. Let's recreate the quarterback challenge in Honolulu and watch him put the ball in the laundry cart from 35 yards away."
The end of the blurb on Brees explains why he should be in tier one, not tier two. What a stupid article.
