37-year-old viewed as backup possibility

The Saints confirmed Tuesday that veteran free-agent quarterback Mark Brunell spent part of the day visiting the team and speaking with Coach Sean Payton about the possibility of playing in New Orleans.

Brunell arrived in town Monday night, according to Saints vice president of communications Greg Bensel, and dined with General Manager Mickey Loomis before meeting with Payton on Tuesday.

Neither Brunell nor his agent, Bruce Tollner, could be reached for comment.

The team may be in the market for a veteran backup to starter Drew Brees. Jamie Martin, who has filled that roll the past two seasons, is also an unrestricted free agent.

The only other quarterback under contract with the Saints is second-year pro Tyler Palko. Full Story – Picayune
