Quarterback prospects in 2025 vs 2026 (2 Viewers)

I don’t disagree, but I suggest the team still draft a qb this year in the second or third round, the may strike gold. If not choose a first rounder next year.
How many current starting QB’s in the NFL were picked after the first round? Not many.
Dak, Hurts, Purdy… Carr 🙈 I can’t think of any others off the top of my head.
It’s a waste of a pick for a team that has other big holes to fill.

We either take a QB in the first or we run with what we have.

We can’t run with what we have unless, Loomis and Moore plan to intentionally tank the season. Wasn’t Drew drafted in the second round? I know you referenced current qbs, but I’m pointing out that sometimes teams strike gold outside of the first round, and don’t forget where Brady was drafted.

To challenge for a Superbowl you either need a great QB, or a very good QB with everything else in place (elite defense, strong OL with depth, a top RB).
Not even the wildest optimist would suggest the Saints have everything else in place to contend so there's a clear choice between strengthening some key areas of the roster this year - or taking a big risk on someone who at best becomes a very good player but is unlikely to be a difference maker over the next couple of years.
There's even a bonkers scenario where a very good but not great QB might actually damage the team by elevating us by 3 or 4 wins, leaving us in the middle of the draft and taking us out of contention for an elite prospect.

This line of thinking is incredibly silly and attempting to declare what the future is. This line of thinking the Packers wouldn't have Jordan Love. The Broncos Bo Nix and Falcons Penix Jr. If you compare Ward and Dart to last year's QB's, there's a solid shot both would've been taken ahead of Bo Nix who went Top 10. You can even drop back to the 2020 NFL draft with Burrow, and Ward and Dart likely would've gone before Love, and perhaps even rivaled Herbert.

On top of that, you haven't any idea what's going to happen with this coming year's QB's. We just watched Carson Beck regress after losing Bowers. How is Drew Allar guaranteed to progress without Tyler Warren? Nuss without Kyren Lacy and Mason Taylor? For all you know, only 1 QB comes out looking like a great candidate and all the others end up looking below the level of Dart and Ward. We just watched Nico Iamaleava take a massive hit and is entering the portal and now his outlook is questionable.

Incredibly dangerous game to play when you have two QB's in this draft that would still be first round picks most other years.

If Kellen Moore really likes someone in this draft and is willing to, or wanting to hinge his career to that QB, then so be it. Go get em.

I don't try to predict which QBs will be successful in the NFL or not... It is always a crapshoot!
I personally don't like Sanders or Dart at #9...

He was but he was also pick 32 as it was the last year before the Texans got their franchise and the realignment.

Tom Brady’s are anomalies, once in a generation picks.

Considering we haven’t really hit home runs on our first round picks since 2017, I’d be willing to take a chance on a QB and see what happens.

I'm starting to wonder if everyone may pass on QB's (except Ward) early and we'll see a scramble occurring starting somewhere around mid/late teens or early twenties for these QB needy teams to trade up from the second round to start a QB run.

The problem I have, is I don't see the value there. Let's take the saints for example. Is it better to burn #9 on a QB this year, or burn #40 and a next year's first to move up to 20 to take a QB? If the QB doesn't work out great, you just burned a valuable 2nd round pick loaded with good talent which is fine, but you also burned next year's first round pick in a much more talented draft. Burning @9 on the QB and leaving next year's picks alone lessons the blow if the QB doesn't work out.

So I'm really hoping that if the Saints plan on taking a QB in the first two rounds, they do it without trading up from round two. Now I specify that for a reason. If they trade up to say pick #3 and take a QB, that's fine by me. They did that because they believed they never had a shot at getting him and believe he's the answer. But trading up from the second round makes me question if they really believe the QB is a franchise QB because if so, why wouldn't you just take him @9?

Long thought process. Basically I'm saying don't burn next year's draft capitol unless you're confident in the answer at QB.
1st , even with all this crazy news about DC's shoulder coming out , nothing has been confirmed. But just for S's and G's lets say he's out for the yr.
If we pass on a QB @9 and I think we will. the only 2 teams in the 1st that more than likely will draft a QB is Pitt and maybe the Rams. Lets say that they take Sanders and Dart. That means that Shough is there and that may be the guy we wanted to begin with. The issue is with Cleve and NYG wanting a QB we may have to trade to 32 or 33 to get him so if we trade to 32 it should only cost us a 4th and if they really like Shough I'm ok with that

But that tells me they don’t see Shough as a sure thing franchise QB. They’re going for value in the hopes that he’s a franchise QB. Sean Payton demonstrated last year exactly what it looks like to have a confidence in a selection being a franchise QB. They’re took a guy slated for the 2nd round @12th overrall. They could’ve absolutely selected someone else and also tried to trade up for Nix using their 2nd round. Instead, they said “we’re not here to play games and risk missing out”.

It just doesn’t make any sense at all because someone you believe and are confident in is a franchise QB is absolutely 100% worth a top 15 pick overall. So why play games in hopes of obtaining value? Had the Broncos played that game and missed out drafting Nix, very good chance they also wouldn’t have made the playoffs taking a lesser QB later or scrambled for a lesser one in free agency.

If they want a franchise QB, and see someone who is that. Take him @9. No reason to risk the franchise trying to be cute. This isn’t “Draft Day” and our GM isn’t Kevin Costner.

This is why I ignore the media to a large degree. They put all this fantasy land maneuvers and value in people’s heads and operating the draft from their seat seems fallacy.

I disagree, look at the kind of moves Howie Roseman makes every time he snags a couple extra picks. Ends up turning some dogwater player into a 1st round pick or something like that. Draft capital is what we require, whether we use it on players or better picks is irrelevant.

Roseman gets a lot of credit and most of it is well deserved, but the only thing he did with Baun was sign him. That was Vic Fangio that identified Baun as a player to sign and one he could change his position.

Exactly, that Nico guy from Tennessee sabotaged his career by overplaying his hand for NIL. Now nobody wants him until he drops his asking price by a ton. These kids are unpredictable on their decisions.
