Question for Shreveport/N. La fans (1 Viewer)

>>You gotta understand the history between New Orleans/the rest of Louisiana and North Louisiana/South Louisiana, historically speaking they've been very different and have never really gotten along.....

As a New Orleans transplant living in Monroe for 4 + years, I've got to agree with hardhead233, and can't quite figure out the animous directed at S. La. They don't mind the crawfish and the customs (one cheesy Mardi Gras parade here), but these Bible Belt folks seem leery when they find out you're from below Baton Rouge.
That being said, I've learned to love the place (and a certain West Monroe girl) and Cowboys stickers on 4-wd trucks on I-20 aren't as frequent here as points west. However, there is a crew of diehard Saints fans at Enoch's Irish Pub, thank God!

I go to enochs alot...........nothing like a good ol irish pub !!!:plus-un2:

I agree.
Louisiana citizens who support the Cowgirls are dead to me. :bash: I can understand fans in MS and AL since they don't have a pro team, though we do reach into the FL panhandle a bit.

I have a soft spot also for Mississippi because my grandma on my mothers side is from their and also they(the coastal county's) went through everything we did with the storm.

i just dont understand that and never really will. it doesnt matter if dallas is closer in proximity than new orleans is, the saints are still the team from your home state. no matter how much some of the local residents want it to be, shreveport is not in texas, its in louisiana. no matter where i grew up i would always be a fan of the pro sports team in my state. as a louisiana man i will support my louisiana teams.

to me, people who embrace another states team primarily because the team has been historically better should be embarassed. i think its weak that people in the northwest of LA and even in lake charles and alexandria support texas teams over louisiana teams. i just dont get it and never will. i always have and always will support my home team and home state.

Well I somehow grew up a saints fan, even though my family preferred dallas. But I wasn't an LSU fan and I think I can explain that. LSU wasn't a very good team back then and we didnt' really get them on TV unless you had Tiger Vision. Somehow I ended up a Miami Hurricane fan back then and I still am to this day. I started supporting LSU a little more when I lived in Texas. I supported everything from LA back then. But I still am not an LSU fan.

Right on! There is a big cultural divide between north and south Louisiana. We should be two different states. I mean, do you know of a state where so few miles away from each other they sound so different. Dang it! Mais yeah!

Texas....Drive to Dallas. Then continue on I-20 West for 2-3 hours. You'll see what I'm talking about.

The pub is an oasis- Doyle, Yvette and John keep the Guiness, Harp and Jameson flowing. The Monday night game this year was insane! Maybe we have rubbed shoulders there? If not we should - first one on me.

There should have been made a gulf state called Louisiana that ran from Lake Charles to Mobile up to Hattiesburg and back across thru Alexandria and so on. The other state would be northern half of the three states.

That makes sense....call the Gulf South Louisiana even though most of the Gulf South wasn't part of the Louisiana Purchase.

I'll bet you the reason you supported LSU when you were in Texas was because the Texans probably assumed since you were from Louisiana you were or an LSU fan or when they try to rag on LSU they look at you since you're from Louisiana. I have a friend who is a big Alabama fan(born in New Orleans) and he moved to Texas and the people at his work anytime LSU plays or losses or the conversation comes up they look at him, and he finds himself almost having to like LSU more then he has to because he's outnumbered by Texas fans..Its like he's forced to pull for the state team in those cases.

I don't think it was really people giving me a hard time or anything. I was in the military so I lived and worked with people from all over the country. I didn't really know many people "from" Texas. But everyone supported the teams where they were from...and being from Louisiana, but living somewhere else. I was proud of everything from Louisiana.

I was probably the only Saints fan in Abilene. I remember having to get to "The Zone" sports bar at 10:30am to get a table and reserve a TV for the Saints games every sunday during a 3-13 season.
