One of my heroes!
He was a WWII pilot, test pilot, and air show performer. Famous for flying aerobatic routines in a Shrike Commander. Perhaps the most accomplished pilot in the world. You won't find many who have anything bad to say about the guy at all.
He was shot down over Italy during the war and spent 16 months as a POW. He escaped by stealing a Fw190 and flying to the Netherlands. How awesome is that?
RIP Bob.

RIP Bob.

It's so bad-***, it's hard to even articulate how awesome it is - when real life is cooler than movies.

RIP. A great American.

Saw him at a couple of airshows over the years. Just wow. RIP Bob

If you told him, while he was fighting WWII, that he would live to 94 - do you think he would have believed it?

Probably not. I'm sure he had plenty of brow raising stories from his test pilot days. Some of the aircraft they put him in seem liked they wanted to kill the men who flew them.
