I asked him what his name was
And how come he didn't drive a truck
He said his name was Columbus
And I just said, "Good luck."

-- R. Zimmerman of Hibbing, MN

started out on burgundy, but soon hit the harder stuff

They say I shot a man named Gray and took his wife to Italy
She inherited a million bucks and when she died it came to me
I can’t help it if I’m lucky

People see me all the time and they just can’t remember how to act
Their minds are filled with big ideas, images and distorted facts
Even you, yesterday you had to ask me where it was at
I couldn’t believe after all these years, you didn’t know me better than that

******

She was standing there in back of my chair
Said to me, “Don’t I know your name?”
I muttered somethin’ underneath my breath
She studied the lines on my face
I must admit I felt a little uneasy
When she bent down to tie the laces of my shoe
Tangled up in blue

******

It was raining from the first
And I was dying there of thirst
So I came in here
And your long-time curse hurts
But what’s worse
Is this pain in here
I can’t stay in here
Ain’t it clear that—

I just can’t fit
Yes, I believe it’s time for us to quit
When we meet again
Introduced as friends
Please don’t let on that you knew me when
I was hungry and it was your world

one of my favorite all time movies is All That Jazz - it was remarkable to me that Bob Fosse could just chronicle the death that he knew he was going to have
when i first heard Time out of Mind and particularly "trying to get to heaven" and the lyrics below, i had a similar feling

I was born here and I’ll die here against my will
I know it looks like I’m moving, but I’m standing still
Every nerve in my body is so vacant and numb
I can’t even remember what it was I came here to get away from
Don’t even hear a murmur of a prayer
It’s not dark yet, but it’s getting there

Dylan was the singer dad "gave" me
the opening chords and first stanza od Tom Thumb immediately bring me back to dad
When you’re lost in the rain in Juarez
And it’s Eastertime too
And your gravity fails
And negativity don’t pull you through
Don’t put on any airs
When you’re down on Rue Morgue Avenue
They got some hungry women there
And they really make a mess outta you

You say I let you down, you know its not like that
If you're so hurt, why then don't you show it?
You say you've lost your faith, but that's not where its at
You have no faith to lose, and you know it

At one point I had 17 Dylan CDs.

I don't really keep up with my CDs anymore, in storage somewhere.

This might sound like blasphemy but, I liked the work he did with The Traveling Wilburys.

Blasphemy? Hardly, that stuff was a blast and the last great moment of Roy Orbison's sad life/career.

Nothing wrong with a bunch of great guitar/songwriters sitting around having a good time recording.
